New Republic Writer Admits Bush Tax Cuts Good for Economy

"HERETIC!!!"

That is what leftwingers will be screaming at their computer monitors when they read The New Republic article by Ruy Teixeira in which he praises President Barack Obama for agreeing to extend the Bush tax cuts which are so hated by liberals. Even worse, he claims that the Bush tax cuts extension will improve the economy to the extent that they could improve Obama's re-election chances. Well, there are a lot of other factors at play which will serve to keep the economy in its current doldrums but what Teixeira specifically says about the Bush tax cuts are enough to send liberal blood pressures through the roof over his "heresy." Here a few "heretical" tidbits from Teixeira:

...Far from dividing Obama's coalition, the tax-cut deal is brilliant move that could cement it, in the process winning back some of the white working-class voters who deserted the Democrats in 2010. That's because Democrats' devastating defeat in the midterm elections resulted primarily from the weak economy and the government’s perceived failure to improve it, not from any lack of resoluteness in upholding liberal principles or applying liberal rhetoric. Therefore, the central task for the Obama administration after the election was—and is—to improve the economy by any means necessary.

It's going to be FUn to watch the angry liberal reaction to Teixeira's praise for the Bush tax cuts.

As I have been saying since 2010, Obama was planning on this strategic loss (surrender really) since spring 2010 when he was told Pelosi would probably lose the House. At any time in 2009 or 2010 Democrats could have increased any of those taxes with ony 50 Senators, which protecting at least 9 from the vote. Instead Obama gets a win-win with the Bush tax cut extensions, the extension of rates helps the economy (relative to raising taxes), and he gets to talk as if the entire deficit is caused by the tax cuts forced on him, and he will tell his gullable progressive base that Republicans black-mailed him into extending those taxe cuts.

If the last idea sounds lame it should also sound familiar because it was a typical excuse to defend GWB, "Democrats forced him to grow government and increase spending , hugely increase it too. But he didnt want to.".

I still think the FICA tax cuts was a stupid idea, I dont even see Republicans using it (increased FICA/SS deficit) as an argument against SS benefits. An employer payroll tax cut would have made sense.

Obama is smart enough to know that the libs will vote for him anyway, and one step backward to gain several steps forward is following in a tried and true Marxist pattern.

That is one I went out on a limb on, the conventional wisdom with most here, talk radio and Republicans I know in Maryland was predicting the opposite of me, that Obama would do anything to scuttle Bush rich tax cut extensions even if it meant the middle class ones go up because he didn't care if he was re-elected.

I called the opposite prediction, I said that Obama will complain about tax cuts ‘for the rich’ up to the election (which he knew Dems would lose) and then play the exact game he did.

It was actually Santorum on FNC Cavuto that gave that more convincing logical argument for what Obama was really up to, about summer 2010. I knew Obama wanted re-election but had to deal with 2010 election first.
