Shamed BBC could lose prestigious TV award over ‘faked footage of child labour'

The BBC could be forced to hand back a prestigious award it won for the controversial Primark Panorama expose, after footage in the show of child labour in India was revealed to be fake.

The corporation won the Current Affairs Home Prize at the Royal Television Society awards for its show Primark: On The Rack, which was broadcast in June 2008.

However there is speculation that they could lose the award, following the findings of the BBC Trust's investigation into the show, highlighting 'serious editorial failings' and saying footage used of three young boys in a workshop in Bangalore was 'not authentic'.

The BBC often passes on as if they’re real fake photos put out by the Palestinian Authority. So-called intelligentsia don’t have a problem with those forgeries masquerading as news.

Also, their own deep pockets invested into green technology/carbon credits explaining their unabashed reporting on AGW.....however incorrect.

They’ve slid down to punk reporting.....with a stiff upper lip, of course.

The BBC should stick to what it does best: Blood libels.

And there are people right here on FRee Republic that believe the BBC is a legitimate “news” organization.

It’s crazy BBC has to be told not to show or sell the program and to give back the “award”.

Maybe someone from the UK can enlighten me, but I was under the impression that the BBC is the only TV network that is allowed to legally operate in the UK, so by definition, even if it produces the “worst” shows it would be the only eligible recipient for any potential TV industry awards there. Is this not correct?

Even ICTY judges forced the prosecutors in the Hague to stop using BBC reports as “evidence” because the court translators pointed out that BBC “translations” were faked.

They won a lot of awards for how they covered the Balkans, though.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_television_stations_in_the_United_Kingdom

Quite a number of stations available.

Once upon a time residents used to pay a licence fee for TV -per house - which was given to BBC exclusively; that may still be the case. The wiki article seems to show the BBC and other ‘free’ stations - in addition to cable access pay channels.

What is probably less likely to happen here is someone calling them on it. The Brits always had a healthy sense of skepticism and intellectually honesty. Climategate was the result of getting mixed up with American academics.

The TV (and radio) licence fee is still in force, and is still given exclusively to the BBC. They have, however, become considerably more commercially “savvy” in recent years. They have their own record label and publishing imprint, both of which make healthy profits, and they have become very adept at selling their products to other nations as well. In the US the top sellers are “Top Gear”, “Doctor Who” and “Antiques Roadshow”.
