Feds crack down on campus flirting and sex jokes
The Washington Examiner ^ | 06/21/11 | Michael Barone

Posted on 06/22/2011 10:40:24 AM PDT by CharlyFord

When I was growing up it was widely believed that colleges and universities were the part of our society with the widest scope for free expression and free speech. In the conformist America of the 1950s, the thinking ran, few people dared to say anything that went beyond a broad consensus. But on campus anyone could say anything he liked.

Today we live in an America with enormous cultural variety in which very few things are considered universally verboten. But on campus it's different. There saying something considerably milder than some of the double entrendres you heard in cable news coverage of the Anthony Weiner scandal can get you into big trouble.

OCR's letter carries great weight since there are few things a university president fears more than an OCR investigation, which can lead to loss of federal funds -- which amount to billions of dollars in some cases.

Don’t they already have a flag with corresponding colors?

Looks like the first course a modern collage student should take is acting. Say the lines, get the ticket punched, move on.

May I offer a suggestion to go along with your “spout it back at’em” advice?

If they choose to challenge the teacher, they can reply in writing to the teacher and Dean, “I feel that you are suppressing my freedom to express myself freely under color of your authority and if this continues I will be forced to take legal action against the institution and the teacher involved. If I receive any repercussions to this letter, IE my grades suddenly drop, I will only use it as evidence in any legal proceedings you force me to bring.”

I’m sure that many could be thinking ‘criminal thoughts’ right about now ;)

Here is an article concerning DKE at Yale. The gist of it is: "In a letter to Yale University President Richard Levin, FIRE is asking the university to "stand firm against federal pressure to punish protected expression."

I’m just waiting for the shooting to start.

I'm stocked and locked and ready to roll no matter which way it goes...including sideways.

You’ve described the old Soviet system to a T. It won’t be long before one of your students is ‘caught’ on some PC transgression, ‘tried by some Committee’, one of whose liberal members will recall your ‘reactionary’ comments, at which point an official dossier on you will be started.

It used to be that a student could hunker down as you advocate, pass through the academic system and escape into the real world and go on with his life. Unfortunately, the beliefs held by academics have invaded the corporate environment. The left achieved their break out when the corporate ‘Personnel Dept.” Became “Human Resources”, the very name boldly signaling their triumph. The new politburo casting its controlling shadow over nearly every aspect of large business. No need to unionize the corporate workers when fear rules the work place.

Oh, Brave new world!

They want to squash dirty jokes because most of them are about liberals.

After careful study it would seem that the colors of a watermelon were utilized for such a ‘glorious’ purpose..
