WASHINGTON (AP) -- Two House members introduced a bill Thursday that would remove marijuana from the list of federal controlled substances and cede to the states enforcement of laws governing pot.
The legislation would eliminate marijuana-specific penalties under federal law, but would maintain a ban on transporting marijuana across state lines. It would allow individuals to grow and sell marijuana in states that make it legal.

I think pot is garbage and those who use it ultimately turn into vegetables.
But from a Federalism point of view it’s hard to defend the current state of (federal) law on the subject.
State’s Rights...
Interesting concept.
Tell pot heads that they can’t have it both ways. You cant be a libertarian about pot and be a socialist on everthing else. Sign a release form that says “I want to grow and smoke weed and exempmt myself from any government assistance for the rest of my life”
(gasp) Do you think it's wise to contend that the federal government might give the impression that they are willing to give the states any kind of rights willy, nilly?
What Strange “Bedfellows”
Still don’t see what Ron Paul would see in an association of ANYKIND with Barney Franks.
One would think that he would keep his distance from such rat droppings and not crawl in bed with him on any subject.
This is typical Ron Paul - no sense of proportion.
The country is facing a debt collapse, an out-of-control Fed. Gov’t, wars in the M-E, Islamofacism - and Paul wants to spend his time on this.
He’s really just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Can someone explain why it took a constitutional amendment to institute a national prohibition on alcohol but a mere act of Congress to outlaw marihuana? Why can’t we leave it to the individual states to decide, while retaining a federal prohibition on interstate commerce in marijuana.
The six co-sponsors of the bill are Massachusetts Democratic Rep.Barney Frank, Tennessee Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen, Michigan Democratic Rep. John Conyers, Colorado Democratic Rep. Jared Polis, California Democratic Rep. Barbara Lee, and Texas Republican-Libertarian-Loon Ron Paul.
What do these asshats have in common? It’s not love for the 10th Amendment.
For this bunch to be pushing this means just one thing. They see it as a way to expand the role of the federal government and increase their power. Guess who pays.
Obviously, this administration is doing harder drugs anyway...
why do you assume that people who smoke pot don’t work ? I have smoked pot for several yrs. and hold down a steady job, not once in my life have I been on any kind of government assistance.
Someone answer this tho, you cannot smoke is some cities, not in restaurants, bars or even at the park...are pot smokers going to get a waiver for that?
The Government wants everyone “happy” :), so we won't care what they do next.
I think his take is that the Gov will spend a LOT LESS time and money chasing and imprisoning stoners so that it can direct it towards some of our truly dire needs. And create new tax revenues. Not to mention undermine the Mexican drug cartels whose violence is threatening our border states. That would certainly help Texas.
I sure can. It’s because the Constitution placed limits on the Feds at one time.
Now as you know the commerce clause has been butchered.
I think Thomas may be the only justice who really gets it.
