If this viewpoint were not so grave and dangerous to our republic, it would be hilarious.

Mr. Ames was correct in highlighting the passage ...If the Constitution was intended to limit the federal government, it sure doesn’t say so...The truth is, the Constitution massively strengthened the central government of the U.S. for the simple reason that it established one where none had existed before...

There is a reason "Time" readership has plummeted and the thickness of the magazine has been reduced to the point it looks like a coupon booklet. The lack of critical thinking and errors in logic and reasoning in this one sentence highlight those reasons.

If you asked liberals about The Federalist Papers, they would say "Yeah, I have read them..." with the same amount of conviction they would denounce Senator Joseph McCarthy, and with the same understanding of the subject.

Good God. Understanding the need for and engaging in the act of creating a Federal Government is not the equivalent of granting that federal government unlimited power and unlimited government growth, which is the meat of what this bonehead says.

Make no mistake: THIS IS WHAT ALL LIBERALS THINK.

Our founders grappled for years on the composition of the Constitution. This idiot thinks the founders would go through all that, and then would turn around and say "It's just a guideline...follow it if it is convenient".

Hearing liberals discuss the intentions of the Founders and The Constitution is like listening to them talk about "What Jesus Would Do" and The Bible.

I want this to be a joke. If there was any doubt, now it’s gone: the fascists-communists run US media, intent on destroying us. Time prints fiction.

I think Time Magazine is right about this one. Look at this comprehensive summary of the document and you'll see no mention of restriction of powers.

Both Time and Newsweek have to publish outrageous, rediculous headline stories to attract buyers.

Mark Levin is an authority on constitutional law and heads a group very active protecting our Constitution. He is also a very popular author and talk show host who is followed closely here on FR.

His June 23rd broadcast available here presented a great response to this article.

Exceptionally interesting was his explanation about the Necessary and Proper Clause, which is located at Article I, Section 8, Clause 18. The MSM employees feeeeeeeeel that it is proof that the Founders intended to grant huge powers to the federal government over the people -- contrary to the opposite that those scary Tea Party troublemakers think.

Mr Levin kinda summed up the facts around that clause by asking that if the ultra liberals are correct then why did the Founders even bother to write the Constitution?

Another glaring fault in the MSM employees' argument is when they downplayed the importance of a constitution by pointing out that Nazi Germany among others had a constitution.

Exactly! responded Mr. Levin.

That's why it is so important to protect our Constitution from people like them!

"For why declare that things shall not be done which there is no power to do?"-A. Hamilton

Oh Mr. Hamilton. If only you and your fellow Federalists could see how far the sensibilities of this nation could fall! I wish I could travel back in time and bring you a copy of this magazine, and let you know that there are people of my time that are taking the magazine's assertions seriously without guffaws of laughter!

I am thrilled that Time and the rest of the MSM has taken on the mantle of the Supreme Court....this will save American taxpayers THOUSANDS of dollars per year, no longer having to pay the salaries of Supreme Court Justices...(is ‘sarc’ really necessary?)

I think the Tenth Amendment which states: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people” DOES limit the powers of the Federal Government to those enumerated in The Constitution.

"Living Document"....kiinda goes hand-in-hand with their thoughts on morality....that is...there really is no right or wrong...it is just a matter of perception....

Honestly...it really has to be very confusing living in a reality were there is nothing concrete...where foundations and principals are fleeting and ever changing....

Thank the good Lord my Dad was a conservative....I may be saddened by what I see today....but at least I can figure out why....

In fairness to the Federalists, it is a bit much for me to ask for them to imagine the coming of “the meaning of the word ‘is’ is” era, when common sense would be abandoned, which I believe that even the proponents for the Bill of Rights would be a bit shocked at how far we would let that insanity get...

I think the Tenth Amendment ...

Psst, I just want to whisper to you that Time may not consider this germane, it is, after all, an AMENDMENT and not part of the original document. Time Magazine, after all, wants to be exact.

Anybody want to guess at what RPM Henry B Luce is now spinning? It has got to be getting close to the zillions!
