UPDATE: The Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is making a two day stop in Nebraska. NRC Chairman Gregory Jaczko will be in the state Sunday and Monday. According to a statement from the NRC Jaczko will “observe Missouri River flooding and the flooding preparation” at Nebraska’s two nuclear power plants. The statement goes on to note that “an NRC inspection at Fort Calhoun two years ago indicated deficiencies in the flood preparation area, which the licensee has now remedied.” Jaczko is scheduled to tour the Cooper plant on Sunday and Fort Calhoun on Monday, meeting with NRC inspectors at both plants along with plant officials. He is also scheduled to meet with reporters Monday afternoon in Omaha.

You can be certain that Jaczko will make it sound worse than it actually is, though, so you can judge the severity of the problem by what he says.

So what’s coming? Sweeping new federal nuclear regs to benefit Obama’s nuclear donors in Chicago?

The link didn't work. But is it the same story from the Russians saying there has been an Obama cover up of a radiation release?
If so, that is absolutely garbage.

“the Obama regime has ordered a “total and complete” news blackout”

Sounds like Stalin’s Russia.

I will promise you that it is not accurate. There are some conspiracy types trying to get a story started.

There are a dozens of people there on site manning pumps and doing other things outside, protecting non reactor infrastructure.

Those folks wouldn't be exposing their selves to radiation to protect a steel framer machine shop and storage shed!

When I was in the Navy we were at a stop in Portsmouth, England. There was a group of us in a hut waiting for a launch to take us back to the ship when 3 British MPs came in and walked up to a man sitting on one of the benches. The asked him “are you Mr. So-and-So?” He said he was then they took his arms, stood him up and told him he was under arrest for the crime of rape. Then they hauled him out.

The next day we found out that he had met a girl at a bar and had sex with her at a hotel. The lady, who was married, made up a story about being raped when her husband asked her why she had been out so late. She recanted at the police station.

Sorry, the previous post was actually supposed to go into another thread. This is how Anthony Weiner got himself into trouble, hitting the post button before looking.

Yep, I understand it was shut down in early April for refueling. Any Google searching will show that the plant is an "Island" in the flooded Missouri river. The main plant with the used storage rod pools and the reactor's containment building are protected by a rubber inflated wall. The switchyard is also blocked off from the water. The photo below was taken on June 16.

Certainly one major problem is the used rods in the storage pools. Following the river upstream are several earthen dams that are at or near maximum reservoir levels. The Corps of Engineers has no choice but to release much more water towards this facility.

20 miles down stream is Omaha, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa, followed by Offutt AFB, Kansas City, etc.

Hopefully the facility is built on bedrock, and not just the local soil. Seepage is a major threat to this entire facility.

Cooper Nuclear Station is definitely an issue. They have kept it running through what may turn out to be the worse floods in modern history. One dam breaks now and Game Over. What the heck is that plant powering anyway ? Something of strategic importance ? Why is it still running ? They elected not to restart Fort Calhoun due to the flooding. Why keep Cooper running ?

So what’s coming?

My guess since GE/Obama is running the show.

The plants are perfectly safe. Nothing to worry about.

Oh. And BTW. Heavy rains are predicted for the Missouri river drainage area this weekend. In fact a heavy line of rain is moving right into the area now.

FYI - Major rain headed right at the Cooper Nuclear Plant or actually perhaps just a little bit north.
