.....Californians have always embraced a form of exceptionalism, believing that the normal rules don't apply out here. But while I love that the old Midwestern and Eastern social mores don't matter so much on the Left Coast, there's no escaping the laws of economics.
Entrepreneurs go into the private sector, where they take risks, innovate, and create jobs and fortunes. The private sector fills the public sector's coffers with cash, whereas the public sector burns through the money on its endless commissions and high salaries, runs up billions of dollars in unfunded retirement liabilities, complains that it can't do its job because of tough economic times, and then demands higher taxes. Bad businesses go belly up. Bad bureaucracies never go away and they always lobby for more money...
Texas has many flaws, but at least the leaders there seem to understand the importance of private investment and the limits on government. It's sad, in a way, that California leaders need to make such a trek to remind themselves of those simple, timeless lessons, and that I even need to devote a column raising these obvious points.

The answer to all these questions is simple: Do less. Govern less. Spend less. Let the market work. Then the jobs will flow, and the public coffers will be filled again.
This isn't about Texas, but about enterprise and freedom. Until California voters understand that, it's going to be a long time before we are prosperous again.

Following his remarks (which, though well-prepared and delivered, were nothing outside mainstream conservative thought), MSNBC's liberal commentator Mika Brzezinski proclaimed that she "felt like an alien" watching the speech. While others may recoil at such an outlandish declaration about what was a fairly benign, if fiery, conservative speech, I found myself applauding Mika's refreshing candor about the perspective of the American left.
It's high time Americans know that ideas like the ones Perry addressed -- American exceptionalism, the sanctity of life, states' rights, personal freedom -- are foreign concepts to the modern left. They can't make sense of them and can't imagine that anyone actually believes that way. [end excerpt]
In the same breath, one speech does not paint a picture of bold colors to cover what was once a mixture of pastels. Every candidate’s entire picture must be vetted and cross checked by those who also have their hat in the ring, not to mention those of us who the hope to alure. Otherwise we will again receive one whose picture will be turned inside out once the game is over.
And this time the game will sadly be over, for all of time as we will come to know it.

New York's old manufacturing base is closing down as plants age and products become obsolete; and there's nothing all that unusual about it. But for decades now, very few new businesses have moved in or started up.
And that includes small businesses which is easily seen in the abandoned storefronts that line the main streets of upstate's small towns and villages. It's a slow-motion process that people, unfortunately, get used to.
Don't expect any revolution in California politics, it won't happen. The countryside will dry up, but San Diego and San Francisco will remain prosperous as what economic activity that exists (government, healthcare, lawyers and colleges) increasingly concentrate themselves there.
Meanwhile, the conservative-leaning middle class will quietly pick up and move away, leaving in their place, the poor and the elderly. It's the Democratic way.

I was thinking about NY and CA just this morning. The “coasts” are filling up with liberals, as “fly-over” country builds up their congressional base (from those fleeing the “coasts”) and works to take back our country.

Not gonna happen. Kalifornicate is overly populated with illegals and liberals and has passed the point of no return.

To be honest, I personally wouldn't move to Texas if ya took me in a fully stocked, complementary stretch limo, and gave me a free place to live. That place is like living on the surface of Mercury...But with dripping humidity...lol

Leftist philosophy takes paradise and turns it into a pit, while conservative philosophy takes a pit and turns it into a paradise.This is the only reason people need to flee countries to the South of us and come here. There is nothing here that is not in Mexico except (until now) we have had and followed a good paradigm. They have a work force, good climate, natural resources, fertile land. America is not just “lucky”. California needs to wake up soon or they are going to be simply “Upper Mexico” just as college has been turned into “Longer High School” all in the name of mythical fairness.

I don’t think it is that simple with these two states being both so large and with very different climates all over both states. San Diego vs Houston...yes, California wins but Fresno vs. Fredricksburg..
Oh it's that simple...Ya see 85 percent of most Californians live on or near the coastal plain, where the weather is world class, very Mediterranean like.
For good reason I might add.
If I wanted to live inland, I'd go to the desert or Kansas or Texas....But no thanks, as I feel sorry for people that live in those places...Good luck.
