Many moons ago I was working at Chicago Center & Oshkosh tower calls up and asks what kind of huge aircraft was flying north overhead.
I had no traffic below 24,000 so I called the High Altitude sector over me...they said it was 36 C-141's out of the Carolinas on a round robin to Alaska.
Relayed info to Oshkosh and they swore it looked like one aircraft (they were at 37,000').
That was the worst part about working in a center, we never got to see any aircraft, just watch 'em on radar & talk to 'em.

No C-130s, but sitting here today along the Colorado River in AZ, three big groups of large military helicopters flew over very low headed south. This was unusual, for don’t see such in this area around here?

It was just so freaky. They came up over the trees in a straight line formation. I'm nowhere near NC, but the sight of 21 C-130s in formation at 2000' would be awesome, and more than a little freaky to see. Lucky you!
