Rick Perry is having a good month. With all eyes on his possible bid for the Republican presidential nomination, the Texas governor is showing that his anti-Washington rhetoric is more than just talk. By vetoing feel-good, nanny-state regulations and thwarting of federal intervention in his state, he's demonstrating the kind of leadership America needs.

Beginning in January, Department of Energy bureaucrats will use regulations to strip incandescent lightbulbs from store shelves so that they will be replaced with expensive, inferior and toxic substitutes. This will happen everywhere in the country - except the Lone Star State, thanks to Mr. Perry's June 17 signature on the Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act. This law invokes the 10th Amendment right for Texas to regulate its intrastate commerce. Incandescent bulbs that bear the stamp "Made in Texas" and do not cross state lines will escape the federal grasp.

As a Texan, I can't sit by and watch this go on.

Republicans don't use illegal voters (last I checked)

What does Perry have to do with Federal decisions regarding Mexican trucks or illegal IDs. (you do know he's pushing an anti-sanctuary cities measure in the current legislature?)

DALLAS Bracewell & Giuliani LLP advised Cintra Concesiones de Infraestructuras de Transporte, S.A., a Spanish transportation company, in its successful bid to develop State Highway 121 into a toll road through Collin and Denton counties.

The award to Cintra, approved by the Texas Transportation Commission, is the first privatization of a Texas toll road. Bracewell is acting as project counsel to Cintra with respect to the 50-year concession from the Texas Department of Transportation. Cintra will pay a $2.1 billion upfront and annual lease payments totaling $700 million. "Cintra was awarded this project because of its proven expertise and competitive proposal," said Thomas O. Moore, partner with Bracewell & Giuliani. "This is the largest transportation deal of 2007. This is one of only five deals in the country."

Three firms have competed for the Comprehensive Development Agreement for State Highway 121 since last summer. The proposals were reviewed and scored based on selection criteria set forth by the Regional Transportation Council, the metropolitan planning agency for the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

This CDA is a public-private partnership that allows the provider to handle all facets of developing the toll road, including completing construction and operating and maintaining the corridor.

Cintra, a subsidiary of Grupo Ferrovial specialized in toll roads and car parks, is one of the world's leading private-sector developers of transport infrastructure.

Texas Governor Rick Perry is being called to task by an author and investigative journalist for vetoing bills that would have blocked construction of the controversial Trans-Texas Corridor--- which will be part of a superhighway -- purported to be four football fields wide -- that will allow Mexican trucks to enter the U.S. and traverse the core of the country all the way to Canada.

Governor Perry cleared the way for construction to begin in Texas when he vetoed several bills passed by the Legislature that would have stalled the project.

The Texas Legislature voted a two-year moratorium, and voted a redefinition of eminent domain -- Perry vetoed them. [On] at least one of those measures, he waited until the Texas Legislature was out of session so it couldn't even override his veto. The Federal Highway Administration's lawyer wrote letters threatening the Texas Legislature to cut off federal highway funds if they got in the way of this Trans-Texas Corridor.

NOTE Perry used eminent domain to take property from Texans to give to Cintra Concesiones de Infraestructuras de Transporte, S.A., a Spanish transportation company, in its successful bid to develop State Highway 121 into a toll road through Collin and Denton counties (the "trade road" is four football fields wide).

Tempers Flare At Trans-Texas Corridor Hearing

HOUSTON -- It did not take long Tuesday for the Texas Department of Transportation to find out what the Houstonians at a public hearing thought about the proposed 600-mile Trans-Texas Corridor, KPRC Local 2 reported. "George Washington, Sam Houston would vomit on you people," one attendee said.

Chris Zora, who opposes the plan, attended the hearing at the Arabia Shrine Center in Southwest Houston. "I'd like to see a show of hands here of anybody that approves of this corridor," Zora said. "Is there anyone in this room who approves of this corridor? Raise your hands if you approve of it." KPRC Local 2 did not see anyone raise his or her hand in response.

The hearing was an opportunity for citizens to tell the state what they think of the proposal that would include car, truck and train traffic. TxDOT took notes but officials did not answer questions. "It's more than people giving up their land," said Kathryn Wilson, who owns a farm in Waller County. "We're talking about Texas' second-largest industry, agriculture, being destroyed."

The study area is wide and undefined.

The road, also known as Interstate 69, would run through Texas from the border with Mexico all the way up to the Arkansas/Louisiana border. It would weave into current roads in the Houston area. TxDOT spokeswoman Karen Othon said, "Nothing's going to happen right now. Construction is not going to start. No right of way is going to be bought. Nothing is going to happen at this point. We're right now just hearing the public's comments on this project."

The next public hearing is scheduled to take place in Lake Jackson on Wednesday. It will be held at the Lake Jackson Civic Center beginning at 5 p.m. with a formal presentation set for 6:30 pm Comments from the public will be heard at the end.

We can forget picking a Republican nominee. The Democrats are going to pick Romney for us. They will not need primaries since they know their candidate will be Obama so they will reregister as Republicans in large numbers and vote for Romney. We got McCain because they did that in Iowa and NH, plus some cross-overs from Mass. Then in the general election will we will see massive voter fraud from the accumulated years of phony voters who haven’t been purged from the rolls. Add college students who vote at school and at home and you get the picture.

Perry to make 5 stops in Florida for Giuliani

Answering a call to help political ally Rudy Giuliani pump up his struggling presidential campaign, Gov. Rick Perry is jetting off to Florida, aides announced Saturday. It's a change in plans for the governor. A few days ago, Perry press secretary Robert Black said Perry would not make a swing through the Sunshine State because of scheduling conflicts. Perry "had tentatively planned to go to Florida this week for a couple of days, but we couldn't get the schedules to work out so he's not going," Black said Tuesday. As far as Palin endorsing him...we know why that was so when you consider who his opposition was. Rather like picking the lessser of the two evils IMO...and that for what was perceived as the greater good in those primaries.

‘President’ is a horse of another color altogether...further I do not base my vote on who supports them or is in favor of them. There record and what they have done speaks louder than those who take their side. PErry is a Rino...no matter how you color him or others do.

No different than Obama saying "present" yet look where he is today. Not that I support Pawlenty, because he can't win against the Obama machine. I wish we could have a candidate totally removed from the globalist, one world government movement but, what we have is just that.

Gov. Perry *recently* has shown a willingness to *listen to his constitutes. It might be a ploy for his run to a national office or not. All I know is our choices are limited at this point.

I think we have a VERY good chance of beating Ohaha-—he’s gone downhill faster than Olympic medalist Lindsay Vaughn.

Americans are tired of his destructive policies-—we have to run someone who is the polar opposite of Ohaha.

I just feel Perry is not the one. From his past actions, we see he is all too willing to sacrifice his own principles for political gain when he senses the electorate are not on board.

I completely understand your hesitancy regarding Perry.

WE all spent so much time and effort defeating his past agenda that supporting him now seems nonsensical.

However, there something about him now feels different. I could be wrong but, I see that he's evolved into a someone who gets it. Having Obama as the perfect *what-not-to-do* leader helped that along.

If he gets in and receives the nomination, I'll have to support him wholeheartedly. Frankly, I don't think there's anyone else who can defeat Obama.
