Sideline player could emerge as GOP 'superhero'

Whether Gov. Rick Perry of Texas takes the stage wearing a suit or jeans, he walks with a confident swagger in cowboy boots.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie owns any stage because of his blunt talk and seemingly unpopular remedies.

Outspoken former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin breaks political stereotypes with her unpredictability.

These three share something: They are popular Republicans who are not seeking the party's 2012 presidential nomination — yet. Republican voters and political strategists lately are speculating whether one of the three might be a better choice than any of eight declared GOP contenders.

People are thinking about their favorites because the contest has not begun in earnest and the debate between candidates is not engaging, said Lara Brown, a political science professor at Villanova University.

....It's not the first time people have pined for a candidate who isn't running.

[snip]

He [Perry] appeals to many Republicans — the Tea Party activists, the fiscal conservatives and the national security hawks, said Jeff Brauer, a political science professor at Keystone College. Voters perceive Perry as tough yet personable, the qualities Americans like in a president,..

[snip]

"Christie is a tough campaigner, has proven how to win in a blue state, and I think is generally liked as someone who is willing to transcend partisan politics," Kelly said.

[snip]

...Palin said: "I think that it would be a mistake for me to become some kind of conventional politician. ... It's not about me; it's not a publicity-seeking tour; it's about highlighting the great things about America."

Recent polling data show Obama is vulnerable....

interesting that you had to go back for the last 10 years. during the Bush recovery and all that.

I just went back 5 years for this:

NEW YORK, July 26 (Reuters) - North Dakota and Alaska have
added the most jobs, while Nevada, California and Florida have
lost the most, in the last five years, according to research
released on Monday. The study of U.S. employment trends found 40 states had
fewer jobs in May 2010 than they did five years earlier,
according to Portfolio.com, a business news site that published
the research of private-sector employment conducted by American
City Business Journals. Here are the state-by-state rankings as of mid-2010:
1 North Dakota
2 Alaska
3 Texas
4 South Dakota
5 District of Columbia
6 Nebraska

How are you on Perry’s dealings with immigration and relations with Mexico?

He was a supporter of the the trans-Texas corridor. He passed legilsation similar to the Dream Act.

“We must say to every Texas child learning in a Texas classroom, “we don’t care where you come from, but where you are going, and we are going to do everything we can to help you get there.” And that vision must include the children of undocumented workers. That’s why Texas took the national lead in allowing such deserving young minds to attend a Texas college at a resident rate. Those young minds are a part of a new generation of leaders, the doors of higher education must be open to them. The message is simple: educacion es el futuro, y si se puede.”

Yep, that’s Perry saying, “Yes, we can,” in Spanish.

Most of the stuff I hear on him regarding the border dates to 2001. I’m trying to keep an objective opinion on him, but he seems pretty squishy moderate on some important issues—a bit of a Bush.

Why aren’t we hearing more about Sarah Palin’s job numbers in Alaska?

BTW— my LINKED information SPANS 10 years (not “had to go back 10 years”).

You forgot to LINK to your quote above (seems to be a common problem here on FR) so I'll add it for those who want to READ all that was written.

Gov. Perry and The Texas Dream Act ****"....It’s important to point out that there is a huge difference in the Texas Dream Act and the The Dream Act that was pushed in Congress and failed. The Dream Act in Congress was full of all kinds of goodies other than allowing children of illegals to receive in state tuition. The Texas Dream Act was focused only on that. I happen to agree with The Texas Dream Act, and so did everyone in the Senate in Texas. It passed with ZERO “no” votes. Add to that, it has been proven to be successful." ****

This really is a “fun” interactive graphic.

You can check off the states you want to see their employment figures (as many as you want to come up in comparison.

Above was Alaska and Texas (seasonal) I guess Obama’s hit on the oil sector has really depressed the employment numbers in both states — they would be even better with his foot off their job growth necks.

Here is Alaska, Texas and Michigan shown together:

[snip]

Bachmann is riding high in the first Des Moines Register Iowa Poll of likely GOP caucusgoers. She’s just one percentage point behind Mitt Romney, the national front-runner, in an eight-person field. The Minnesota congresswoman is by far the most popular out of 18 current or potential candidates, including Sarah Palin. All on the eve of her formal presidential campaign launch.

[snip]

Potential candidates: Fourteen percent of likely caucusgoers are undecided, and 69 percent say they could be persuaded to support someone else. There’s still ample opportunity for a candidate like Texas Gov. Rick Perry (43 percent favorable, 8 percent unfavorable) to jump in. Palin is still popular, with a stronger net favorability rating than Romney.

This is some “fan” club.

Three days ago the AP-Gfk poll showed Palin as first in favorability among all GOP candidates with republicans

Twelve days ago The Economist/YouGov poll had her at first on the 2012 list as nominee choice.

Eighteen days ago the Reuters/IPSOS poll had Palin at first of the 2012 list as nominee choice.

Now *that* was tasteful.
