Blago jury: Evidence on Senate seat was most clear

CHICAGO - Jurors among those who convicted Rod Blagojevich of corruption Monday said they found the former Illinois governor personable, but had to set that aside to consider what they found to be clear evidence that he tried to sell or trade President Barack Obama’s Senate seat.

All 12 jurors - 11 women and one man - met with reporters after the verdict in a spare courtroom. They identified themselves only by their juror numbers, noting that their full names will be released Tuesday. Four alternates also sat in on the news conference but didn’t take questions.

Jurors said the evidence that Blagojevich tried to secure a high-paying, high-powered position in exchange for an appointment to Obama’s seat in the Senate was the most clear.

“There was so much more evidence to go on,” said Juror No. 140. Jurors said they listened and re-listened to tape recordings of Blagojevich’s phone conversations with aides as he discussed ways to ask for a Cabinet post or government job in exchange for naming Obama’s preferred candidate for the Senate.

Jurors said they feel confident they reached a fair verdict and acknowledged that it was difficult to convict Blagojevich, who they said they found likable.

“He was personable,” said Juror 103. “It made it hard to separate what we actively had to do as jurors.”

Still, Juror 140 said she found Blagojevich’s testimony over seven days at times “manipulative.”

“Our verdict shows that we didn’t believe it,” she said.

Let's hope he now takes down Rahm and Obama

Had the same thought however hubby said he won't take anyone down if he's promised a pardon from Obama.

Blagojevich: just one more convicted felon who doesn't think law-abiding citizens should have the right to own firearms.

To be fair, robbing a frickin BANK is not the same as bribery. Not by a long shot.

If you bribe a Senator...to help you make millions of $$$ illegally...is that not the same as robbing a bank???

Maybe you think..."robbing a bank" involves a gun!?!?!

The answer is no.

Plenty of folks have "robbed" banks without a gun....And plenty of plenty of bank robbers have bribed their way into stealing money from banks!!

This rat 'effen needle dick TOOK AN OATH!!! Hundreds of thousands of people voted to trust him. To my thinking how many people did the bank robber betray?

This sh!t eating pond slime pol should spend the rest of his life at Marion! Twenty three hours a day for forty years in the deepest darkest hole they have is small recompense for he did.

Perhaps his replacement MIGHT think twice if Blago was literally drawn and quartered, just for taking a bribe. It will either foster more honest leaders, or more careful and clever thieves.

He should have claimed this stuff happened as a consequence of his having been blackmailed over his secret homosexual love life. It would have been 12-0 for acquital. ;’)

>> He could be put in prisons in nearby states including Indiana and Wisconsin. The perfesser stated that "none of them are Club Feds". <<

Needs to be bunk mates with Lyin' George Ryan. Nothing warms the heart like a "bipartisan" prison cell for corrupt politicians. Can we start a petition drive to reunite them?

Also, Quinn needs to be indicted next. The universe isn't in harmony with only 2 out of 3 slimy combine governors in jail. Illinois needs to have a threepeat like the 90s era Chicago Bulls. Sing, Blago, Sing!

That IS a scary thought, now you brought it up. Not to mention that she's the spawn of Bow-tie man Paul Simon. The only good scenario with the current political climate is every Illinois state official gets indicted simultaneously, including the two U.S. Senators.

I don’t agree with the Libby prosecution but yes those people are silly.

Blago has a surprising amount of sympathy from the right (even my mom said she feels sorry for him) for various reasons. None of them matter, deserves to do hard time. I’d offer him a deal to TALK.

Watch his wife end up with some job (payoff) so he doesn’t talk.

What I want to know is how can the Jury be 11-1 female? If it were the other way around would that even be allowed?

Impy, the scary thing is you DID have a valid case that Blago was the "best" of the last three Illinois governors. That's not because of anything positive Blago did, he is a total scumbag and narcissist, it's just George Ryan and Pat Quinn managed to be even worse and totally unlikable.

A number of Illinois voters fell for Blago's "boyish charm" in 2002 and people who live outside Illinois and don't know any better see him on TV and start swallowing his B.S. that he was railroaded by the establishment (nevermind that Blago IS the establishment and spent his career as a loyal yes-man for the combine).

It's ironic he got the job of not one, but TWO slimy crooks (Rostencowski & Ryan), by running on a clean-cut "reformer" image.

I hope the bastard rots in jail, but we got him to talk and bring down Rahm, Hussein, Quinn, Durbin, Madigan, and the rest of the dirtbag machine thugs I'd gladly trade cut him loose in exchange for that.
