3 Gay Airmen Seek Discharge Before DADT Ends

WASHINGTON -- Three members of the Air Force have asked to be discharged because they are gay, moving quickly to get out of the military under the ban on openly gay service before its expected repeal later this year.

Pentagon officials said the other military services have not seen any similar effort this year under the so-called "don't ask, don't tell" law that prohibits gays from serving openly. Defense Secretary Robert Gates has said there are no roadblocks to ending the 17-year-old ban, but it probably won't happen until mid-summer. Gates leaves office this week.

According to the Air Force, during the past month two female staff sergeants and a male second lieutenant made statements identifying themselves as gay and asked to be separated quickly from the service. Only one other person, an airman first class, has been discharged under the law since last October.

Air Force Secretary Michael Donley approved the discharges of the two women, and accepted the resignation of the Airman who requested separation from the service. Gates issued an order last October that said no one could be discharged under the gay ban unless it was approved by the secretary of the military service involved.

So, the three gays are using the repeal to obtain a “get of service early” card.

It would be immaterial in another 2 months or so.

However, the statement “female staff sergeants...who are gay...” gives me pause.

If they’re officers... and they used the military to pay for their college educations ... then they need to complete their obligation ...

Actually, they should be told, “No, you wanted to be accepted fully. Well, that time has arrived, and BTW, you’re on the next deployment rotation to Afghanistan.”

Can’t have it both ways, gays.

The funny thing is, probably EVERYBODY they served with knew they were gay a long time ago. But since they now raise their hands and say so, they get out?

Gosh I'm glad I was in the service more than 40 years ago - and I thought things were screwed-up then. Never knew I'd look back and think, “wow things were normal back then.”

agreed.
and with the inflated numbers they use for the total gay population, the percentages will be incredibly low.

...which they’ll then claim proves “institutional discrimination”.

Exactly. The majority of military personel were moral and trustworthy. They had no trouble sorting themselves out and getting the job done. In this new legalistic age, the average GI is lost. Nothing makes sense and surrender is a tempting option. Fast forward, twenty years; who will wear the uniform?

Most Americans don’t realize that the DADT policy has been abused by service men and women seeking to get out of the military for a variety of reasons.

By using the “I am gay” excuse, they can get out of boot camp or service early without any repercussions.

Now the DADT is coming to an end, the easy way out excuse will disappearing.

Don’t want to deploy to Afghanistan? Tell them your gay and you get out with a honorable discharge.

“Other special circumstances may also end in an honorable discharge. One type of special circumstance is a discharge due to an infraction of the “don’t ask don’t tell” laws enacted in the 1990s. Under these laws it is illegal for the armed forces to fire someone for being a homosexual or lesbian unless they divulge the information about their sexual preferences openly. The “don’t ask don’t tell” discharge is given as an honorable discharge.”

It is because, even they, realize what Obama is doing to our military. When the world is about to end, you go home, you go where you once felt best. Obama creates that feeling purely out of his hate, his unending drive for revenge and his utter incompetence for the job at hand, at least the job that people thought they elected him for.
