John Lennon was a closet Republican: Liked Ronald Reagan

John Lennon was a closet Republican, who felt a little embarrassed by his former radicalism, at the time of his death - according to the tragic Beatles star's last personal assistant.

Fred Seaman worked alongside the music legend from 1979 to Lennon's death at the end of 1980 and he reveals the star was a Ronald Reagan fan who enjoyed arguing with left-wing radicals who reminded him of his former self.

In new documentary Beatles Stories, Seaman tells filmmaker Seth Swirsky Lennon wasn't the peace-loving militant fans thought he was while he was his assistant.

He says, "John, basically, made it very clear that if he were an American he would vote for Reagan because he was really sour on (Democrat) Jimmy Carter.

"He'd met Reagan back, I think, in the 70s at some sporting event... Reagan was the guy who had ordered the National Guard, I believe, to go after the young (peace) demonstrators in Berkeley ........

George Harrison wrote that song, not John. But it’s a good one.

Yoko would “substantiate” anything that suited her.

I find it hard to think it was a coincidence that John was shot with Yoko standing next to him and not one bullet. Yoko couldn’t wait to milk the dollars from John’s death.

He got back with Julian, and Julian and Sean have a very good relationship.

I don’t think Yoko would ever admit John’s growing conservatism. I’m not sure she’d even admit it to herself.

RE :”People *do* change, you know.

Right, I heard Romney is pro-life too :)

Lennon may well have moved towards the center being a father but he had a long way to go, 'Imagine' is clearly a Marxist Dream (Heaven on Earth) song, something the 1930s American Communists would rally to.

Believe it or not the Beatles (together) are to me still the one of the most talented and artistically brilliant (mainly Lennon/McCartney with George Martin's help) musical artists of all time leaving behind a set of work that no-one has come close to. But Lennon's short solo career was very un-notable.

John was smart ... so him liking Ronald Reagan is not a stretch for me. Remember, they called the people who elected him “Reagan Democrats”. Even Ronaldus Maximus himself was a Democrat once... just look up his great speech “A Time For Choosing” from Oct 1964 on Youtube here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXBswFfh6AY

If this gets any traction, watch John morph from the brilliant one to the mean, grouchy one.
