John Lennon’s Second Thoughts
FrontPage Magazine ^ | July 1, 2011 | David Swindle

For more than 40 years Beatles member John Lennon towered above all others as the Left’s most powerful artistic icon. His anthem “Imagine” dreamed of a unified world that transcended the divides of nation-states and religious strife. It was an inspiration to generations of utopians. Now a new documentary reveals a startling fact: in his final years before his murder, the songwriter abandoned his famous progressive faith, enjoyed arguing with radicals, and supported Ronald Reagan.

The Toronto Sun reported Tuesday night on one of the interviews from a new documentary called “Beatles Stories.” Director Seth Swirsky spent five years collecting anecdotes from those who knew members of the band. One of the people Swirsky talked with was Fred Seaman who worked as Lennon’s personal assistant in 1979 and 1980.

According to Seaman,

John, basically, made it very clear that if he were an American he would vote for Reagan because he was really sour on (Democrat) Jimmy Carter.

“He’d met Reagan back, I think, in the 70s at some sporting event… Reagan was the guy who had ordered the National Guard, I believe, to go after the young (peace) demonstrators in Berkeley, so I think that John maybe forgot about that… He did express support for Reagan, which shocked me.

“I also saw John embark in some really brutal arguments with my uncle, who’s an old-time communist… He enjoyed really provoking my uncle… Maybe he was being provocative… but it was pretty obvious to me he had moved away from his earlier radicalism.

“He was a very different person back in 1979 and 80 than he’d been when he wrote Imagine. By 1979 he looked back on that guy and was embarrassed by that guy’s naivete.”

How will the Left respond to these revelations?

Oh, well, if a BLOGGER who never met John Lennon said said it, it MUST be true.

I think

Oh, well, if a liberal/socialist BLOGGER who never met John Lennon said said it, it MUST be true.

Yes, he was a talented musician. I've said this. By today's music comparisons, he'd be a certified genius. But in terms of the understanding the issues of the day such as politics, economics and such he was “not all that bright”.

Yes, his maths teacher at Quarry Bank used to tell us if we couldn't pass in mathematics we should to learn to play the guitar...:^)

I remember reading in his last major interview which was for Playboy magazine back in 1980 (hey they had that kind fo clout back then) and from what I remember he was bashing the liberals and hippies for misunderstanding him thru the years, for misinterpreting all that imagine stuff.

He said his whole message is to make your own life not live through others, nor expect answers from others which is exactly what liberals do. They select an idol (Obama) and expect that person to solve all their problems. He was really bashing them if I remember, and from what I later learned he told Jerry Rubin and Abbie Hoffman that they were idiots. That they couldn’t speak never mind lead people, so he dropped out of that whole leftist scene.

He was never “liberal liberal”...Listen to that song “Revolution”...The song is about people who want to revolt then asking the question “Well WTF are you going to do if you win”? “We all want to see the plan”

The guy was an inredible incredible speaker and an incredible mind. Even at the age of 4 in 1964 I perked up when I heard him speak one day on the radio. He had what my brother says a “saxophone voice” just incredible harmonics coming out of his voice. Sinatra was another who had that kind of voice, and if Lennon chose to become a politician instead of a musician the guy obviously would have gone places.

What I got from him is although he did crazy stuff, he always fell back on basic logic and hammered it home. Like David Bowie once said “He cut through all the BS and explained the unexplainable in two words or less”.

It’s true. He is not telling us to embrace communism, he is just saying “Imagine”...Imagine if the world is like this. But then he also says it can never work because youd have to be a dreamer with everyone dreaming the same thing, thinking the same way which is impossible. Yes it’s naive thinking but then again it’s just a song.

Then he wrote songs like “Grow old with me” and “Beautiful boy”. And people to this day still think McCartney is an equal to this guy in terms of writing talent? Are you kidding me? Don’t they find it a bit odd that the second he split from Lennon his songwriting quality went from “Let it be” to “Biker like an icon”??

Here’s a rare vid ..Yes this is him......
