“It seems like they are offering an excuse to Holder.”

No, what they’re doing is offering an excuse and something of an amnesty to smaller players, in a bid to get them to come testify without DoJ lawyers.

Having the head of BATFE come over and testify without DoJ lawyers is a very nice prize. Issa and Grassley have their sights set on bigger game.

The intended recipients of this letter was not the AG, although it was addressed to him.

“I am not buying Melson’s story. He knew.”

And I doubt that the Congressional investigators buy it, either. But in order to catch bigger game, sometimes you have to let the smaller game go. And by doing so in such a public manner, they send a clear message to those in other agencies that it’s time to come have a little chat with Chairman Issa’s staff. Look at what happened to the head of BATFE: he keeps his job, keeps his ability to retire, and so on.

From what I understand, the Bush Administration had a straw buyer program but actually followed the purchasers and made arrests in the US....Obama changed all that and let the guns ‘walk’. The testimony of the whistleblowers was that they were told not to follow or interdict the guns by their superiors in the Obama administration. Big difference.

I don’t think ANYONE involved in this at the lower level should be fired or even openly investigated until the higher-ups are put on the record and openly investigated. To wit: the so-called Secretary of State Rodham Rodham Rodham seemed to know what was going on LONG before we heard anything about it. What did she know and when did she know it and why was she TALKING ABOUT US guns in Mexico before anyone else was?

I agree, the great majority of “our” officials are spineless, toothless, and cowardly. Not to mention, amoral, corrupt, weak, stupid, inept, self-serving, generally intoxicated creeps.

Where are the lefties that cried about Reagan arming the Contras?

They are busy applauding the arming of the rebels in Libya.
