BAGHDAD -- A roadside bomb killed two U.S. soldiers Thursday outside the main American military base in Baghdad in what U.S. officials said appeared to be another attack by Shiite militias hoping to drive U.S. troops out of Iraq.

The attack follows the deadliest month for U.S. troops in Iraq in two years. Fifteen U.S. soldiers died in June, nearly all in attacks by Shiite militias.

-----

Thursday's bomb, which was detonated near a checkpoint outside Victory Base Camp, was a powerful armor-piercing explosive known as an EFP, according to two military officials with knowledge of the attack.

EFPs typically are designed and outfitted in Iran, and are a trademark of the Shiite militia headed by anti-U.S. cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.

From earlier in the day, before the report of this attack:

Iranian weapons in Iraq increasing, more lethal

Sadr shouldn’t be drawing breath.

If I was in charge he would not be.

And every time an IED goes off in Iraq, by the next morning the top ten Iranian mullahs’ houses, and the top ten Iranian military bases, should be rubble.

Rinse. Repeat.

I'm as serious as a heart attack.

These are being traced back to Iran, and the Moose In Chief does nothing? Surprise surprise as Gomer Pyle would put it.

Don’t just limit it to IEDs in Iraq alone. The place should have been rendered a parking lot years ago.

Iran’s licking their chops waiting for Obama to cave to the nutroots and pull all troops from Iraq. Thanks to his Libyan adventure putting more strain, they might be able to completely ruin the US’s encirclement of Iran.

Between cutting in Iraq, and his delusion of negotiating with the Taliban, and the Arab AKA Islamist Spring, a lot of those bases could be out of commission. Obama’s the best thing that happened to the mullahs since Jimmy Carter.

If that is what we get from the mullahs, give it back to them ten-fold.

I would launch a massive cruise missile attack against a wide spread group of targets.

Iran is the preeminent power in the Middle East, aside from Israel, and they need to know that we can hit them at will. What would be the fallout? Condemnation by the United Nations? Hatred from jihadists?

Before disregarding this idea as 'Cowboy Talk', think about it. Our strategy for the most part is defensive. Initiating some offensive capability at the same time is not a bad idea. They are on the path to nuclear capability. Hit them hard, and often. Discover where these programs and laboratories are and nail them. No boots on the ground. No nation building.

Again, Iran is getting to big for its britches. Let them start shoveling shards of concrete from shattered military installations.

I agree.

Their supply of this ordnance to Sadr and his minions is an act of war against us.

When someone launches war against you there are two choices: Fight, or die.

Only an idiot would choose the latter. Especially when you control the world’s most powerful military.

Unfortunately at this time, the idiot lives at the White House. We need a changing of the guard now more than ever.
