Democrat: Controversial ATF program shows need for tougher gun laws

Washington (CNN) -- A controversial program by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that tried to track illegal weapons sales shows the need for tougher gun laws, according to a report issued Thursday by a House Democrat.

Entitled "Outgunned," the report released by Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Maryland, quoted law enforcement officers on how lax or nonexistent laws and regulations on so-called "straw" purchases of illegal weapons, firearms trafficking and monitoring of the sales of assault rifles and other long guns contributed to the thriving trafficking of illegal weapons to Mexico.

The Democratic report issued Thursday said committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa of California prevented questions about the need for stronger gun control laws at a June 15 hearing on the ATF operation. The report is an attempt by Cummings and other Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to raise the issue of gun control in the investigation of "Operation Fast and Furious," the ATF program that focused on following people who legally bought weapons that were then transferred to criminals and destined for Mexico.

Didn't see this posted.

Notice the attempt to somehow make Issa culpable. How shameless will the supporters of the current administration be? Unbelievable.

When the federal government breaks federal laws it's only because they don't have enough power.

We need to give them absolute power.

Then everything will be OK.

No it doesn’t Elijah. What is does show us that we have to clean Washington out from top to bottom and put traitors like you in jail or before a firing squad.

And if you don’t agree with Cummings you’re obviously racist.

Ever wonder what happened to those D students in your school?

(I’m talkin’ Ds in real courses, not the fantastic plastic marshmallow major cr*p that occurs in the vast majority of schools...)

The really, really stupid ones?

They became libs.

Utterly-ARROGANT to a "T", these Congressional-Socialists are.

They are so-deceived as to think that They
can never be wrong in their plans or ideals.

Soon...the ballot box will not be enough to stop these evil men and women.

I'm sorry, but did all those laws about shutting down gun stores who knowingly engage in sales to straw purchasers get repealed? If so, why didn't I hear about it?

I think he’s simply doing what the intention of operation Fast & Furious was in the first place.

Think about how stupid this is....Is Cummings saying that Holder and Obama were too stupid to realize that they didn’t have the proper laws to follow the guns they put into the cartels’ hands? That’s interesting because President Bush was able to track the guns and make arrests when he was running Gunrunner and no guns made it into Mexico.

This is just bait and switch..but if we take his argument to it’s logical conclusion..then Obama and Holder are incompetent to have started a program to walk guns into the hands of the drug cartels without anyway to stop them....lol!!

It was posted the other day, but so what.

” A controversial program by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that tried to track illegal weapons sales shows the need for tougher gun laws, according to a report issued Thursday by a House Democrat.”

That’s the goal right there. We can all cuss, and discuss various reasons, and focus on various who’s, but right there is the reason for it all. Taking our guns away from us. It’s been a goal of the NWO crowd, the UN for seemingly ever.

More like the ATF program where ATF directed dealers to sell weapons to known straw purchasers who were then allowed by ATF to illegally export the weapons out of the country.

Well, to put this in context, Cummings would issue a report saying “The sky being blue shows need for tougher gun laws.” He's a gun control nut, and will use anything to advance his views. Luckily he couldn't even get anything through the Pelosi congress, so he pretty much just spitting into the wind.

The “stronger gun control” was the intended outcome of this “Fast and Furious” venture all along.

Indeed. He needs someone to stand up right after him and assert this boldly, AND accuse him of knowing this fact and having the balls to go forward with it anyway.

Operation Fascist and Furious...
