LOS ANGELES—A California State Bar panel is considering whether an illegal immigrant who passed the exam to practice law should be admitted despite his status.

The case of Mexican-born Sergio Garcia could be the first reviewed by the panel since California began asking applicants about their immigration status in 2008, the Daily Journal reported Wednesday.

Garcia attended college in Chico and passed the Bar exam in July 2009. Since then, he has been waiting to see if he can be admitted even though he is an illegal immigrant. He now works as a paralegal.

Might as well, what difference is it going to make if we have one more lawbreaking lawyer ripping off Americans and stealing their money? We’re overrun with them now, one more isn’t going to hurt anything.

We all know how this is going to come out.

Of course, I wonder if California lawyers really want to compete with 50 cent per hour illegal aliens. It’s certainly not a job “Americans won’t do.”

He now works as a paralegal, how can you work in law when you broke the law in the first place and still breaking it.

Ridiculous.

Lawyers are one of the least respected and trusted professionals.

What can be done to change that?

Hey - why not let admitted lawbreakers, who personally show they do not respect the law, become “officers of the court”?

That will bring change. Their standing will go from close to last place to actually being in last place.

I guess this will simplify things. Need a lawyer just go out in front of Home Depot and pick one up.

If approved by the State Bar and State Supreme Court, why should anyone in California obey any law anymore?

If an illegal alien can practice law, then anyone should be entitled to practice law. If you don't pass the bar (or don't bother to even take it), you can just be an UNDOCUMENTED ATTORNEY.

The law means nothing anymore.

Maybe we should all just ignore the tax codes like these people ignore the immigration codes.

We can be undocumented tax payers.

Why did he bother taking the Bar exam when he didn’t take the citizenship test? Just call himself a lawyer and start an “undocumented” law practice.

A paralegal illegal? Working picking lettuce, I presume or more likely for a law firm which could be prosecuted for knowingly hiring an illegal? Oh, I forgot lawyers are exempt from obeying the law.

Correction: should read "lawyers and Congressmen are exempt."

The hypocrisy of claiming to “weigh” what is a foregone conclusion staggers the imagination. Of course he will be admitted. The legal profession and judiciary in California have long favored the criminal class in our society.
