In an article published Tuesday entitled “Casey Anthony: The Candidates Respond,” Salon Magazine smeared Sarah Palin and several Republican presidential candidates with faked quotes reacting to the verdict in the Casey Anthony trial. The faked quotes, especially those falsely attributed to Michele Bachmann and Palin, made their way around the Internet this week, adding to the media-driven campaign of hatred against leading Republican women. We have to be alert to prevent "satire" from being presented to the public as "fact." It is indeed an Alinsky spoiled-brat tactic to use satire for that purpose. IMO.
The example of Esquire -- I think it was -- claims that it was just satire.. No, no. They weren't trying to damage Dr. Corsi at all.
In that manner it is no better than flat-out lies -- for example google "potatoe spelling" and quayle shows up. In this case it is not satire -- it's became the basis for satire -- but it was plain lying by MSM employees, et al.
I actually do recall the day that happened and I recall the initial MSM reports. By my recollection is was the next day that using phonetic spelling became proof that one is stupid -- it is if one is a conservative and one is the VP and a long popular joke is: If President G.W. Bush is assassinated the Secret Service is instructed to immediately shoot the Vice President.
We are defending against an enemy (one of them) who are a bunch of aging psycho spoiled brats and their ideological offspring. Arguable now "the Establishment." As they used to say, "Bring it all down, man."
They simply make stuff up.
The Salon piece is clearly marked as being satire.
But who would know ~ have you take a look at their stuff in recent years?

No, the Salon article is not clearly labeled as satire. If it were, there would have been no need for this article to have been written. Alex Pareene implied that some quotes were real when in fact none of them were.
But I forgot that there are biological as well as ideological offspring of 1960s aging psycho spoiled brats .
One is present in the White House.
The writer stated that his blog was not necessarily a political blog and goes further and stated that his quotes may have been invented.
It is not the fault of the writer that a reader may not be able to distinguish satire from reality even after being warned.

gets about 175 google hits as of this afternoon. How many of those sites make it clear that it is satire? I'm assuming Ms Palin said no such thing. BTW.
How long will it be before what is in that satire article will be "woven into the B.S. fabric" of talking heads and other MSM employees? I think SNL satire was in the fabric the next morning. If not.. then that was satire. :)

‘Rounded up or possibly invented.’ Pareene wanted to have it both ways. He succeeded. A bunch of people took it for real, running with the bogus quotes to run down Palin and Bachmann. Some, like you, took it as satire. Face it, not everyone is as intelligent and observant as you.

I am disappointed that a bunch of people failed to pay attention in 8th grade English class and still do not know the definition of the word “ostensibly.”
BTW-Satire is a vital aspect of political commentary in this country and even in nations where there is not freedom of the press.
And yes, good satire is not designed for the intellectually lazy and even worse, some that have the skill set to identify satire, elect to cloak themselves or their political allies as victims of the harsh reality of politics.
Since that little bit of contumely I thought I'd try one more time to 'splain where I stand.
It ain't the satire it's simply how some "cloak" their intent as satire -- the intent is to spread lies and destroy. No one says to end satire or free speech. Why do the Salon employees, Esquire employees, et al. "elect to cloak themselves" with claims of satire?
They should have simply expressed their feeeeeeeeelings of hatred. But that would not have gone "viral." Phony news items do go viral.

Generally IT APPEARS (emphasis because I did not look at many) that right wingers know it was fake but others either don't know or simply don't care if it's true or not -- it's the tarnishing of the target that counts.

The way I understand the bigjournalism.com story is that Ms Palin did not say those things. I did not track down her comments of the past few days. I have no idea if she even commented on the trial.
The (yet more!) lies about Palin published in Salon as "satire" and the Esquire "satire" both disguised as "news" items, the latter with no efforts to indicate otherwise in the original publication and the former with a silly "yeah some of this may not be true, so what?" type of disclaimer.
The perps knew that "news" would go viral.. while simply expressing their hatred of Gov. Palin and Dr. Corsi would not.

As noted above and based upon a small number of sites which I read.. the right wingers know it was "satire" the left could not care less they repeat it as fact.
Again I am going by the bigjournalism.com story's claim that Ms Palin did not say any such thing. The reference to Esquire is their attempts to sabotage Dr. Corsi's book about Obama's birth claims.
