Thanks for all of the work you do, Syncro.

There is one question I have about this debate. You text above says:

The historic Tea Party Presidential Debate is the first and only scheduled debate focusing exclusively on tea party issues...

Is there some text you can post to this thread that defines "tea party issues" as TPX uses the term?

I mean, we all have an idea of what the "tea party issues" are and I'm sure there is substantial agreement among us all (on what the issues are) but I'd find it helpful in understanding this debate event to know what guidance was being used to generate and select the topics and questions.

Thanks.

Here is the Website for the debate:

The Tea Party Debate is a truly historic, first-of-its-kind event that will bring conservative candidates for President together to discuss tea party principles, and determine which candidate has the best solutions to lead the United States of America and her people into greater freedom and prosperity.

The debate demonstrates that the tea party, which began as a small grassroots movement, has grown tremendously in size and influence to become a powerful force in American politics.

The Tea Party Debate will focus only on the core principles and values of the tea party movement: limited government, free markets, and fiscal responsibility.

WHEN: September 12, 2011

WHERE: Tampa, Florida

This date was chosen because it is such a significant day in the history of the tea party movement: the anniversary of the massive “March on D.C.” which demonstrated the power and size of the tea party.

Mission

Our expectation is that a strong front runner will emerge who clearly supports the principles and values of the tea party movement and who is the strongest constitutional conservative. We believe that the groups around the country will make the decision to support that strong tea party candidate and will work to take back the White House from President Obama.

Partners

The Tea Party Debate has tremendous significance because it is powered by engaged tea party activists. The Tea Party Debate will be coordinated by Tea Party Express and CNN, with participation and involvement from co-host local tea party groups in every state across the country. The questions asked of the candidates will all come from the tea party groups and their members – to ensure the debate is about the issues that matter most to the tea party movement.

We want your local tea party to be a part of this historic event! For information about becoming a Tea Party debate co-sponsor, please send an e-mail to Info@TeaPartyExpress.org

Go to the website everyone, there is a lot more info there, plus it's interactive.

CNN?

I think having it on CNN is a great idea and a real coup so long as it is tea party conservatives selecting the topics and the questions and there is no commie "moderator" mucking things up.

Yes I have. Was CNN chosen because of airport TVs, is that what you’re saying?

I certainly agree, although I was a little curious about how the selection of CNN came about.

Wow!! One week after Governor Palin’s hat-toss. Perfect.

(actually, I have no inside info, it’s just that I read TEA leaves and if you go back to 2008, you will see that like a number of others at FR, I was one of those who named Palin as the VP pick well before the Press figured it out. Hint: FlightAware was a wonderful tool!)

Tea party people from all across the nation (check out the co-sponsor lists) will have input into the questions and will actually be able to ask their questions directly to the candidates in the debate.

As far as I can tell, the TPX isn't limiting what are "tea party issues."

Yes, we all are familiar with what they are.

I think the topics and questions will be what we would expect.

The TPX has always been very attentive to what the millions of tea party people are concerned with.

No it wasn't because of the TV’s in airports.

You seemed to question “why cnn” and there is one reason.

I have never been in an airport where the TV’s are not tuned to cnn.

So during the debate, thousands of TVs in airports will be tuned into the debate and the people will watch it just because it is on.

Plus cnn seems to be the cable news channel of choice of most hotels, so many will see it there too.

It's possible that Obama may have been a player in the choice.

Not choosing cnn, but nixing it being on Fox Cable News.

If you followed previous TPX tours, you would have noticed that they got a lot of coverage from Fox News, even with Griff Jenkins being embedded with the TPX on one of the tours.

The chatter is that this twisted up Obama’s panties and he had a “beer summit” with the Fox people, complaining that they should only cover the TPX when it is actually hard news.

Seems only fair being as cnn, msnbc, abc, nbc, cbs etc etc are branches of the dnc. Can't have a news station being in the tank for the tea party, now can we? Double standard and typical of leftists.?

So we may have Obama to thanks for the cnn choice. Bear in mind my statements are somewhat speculative, but probably pretty accurate.

Personally I think cnn is a better venue than Fox, being pretty much the generic cable news channel that it is.

It will get a better cross section of viewers than Fox imo.

Plus can you imagine Hannity or O’Reilly or Combes or Gretta being the host from the news channel side?

Scary, ain't it?

LOL

Looking forward to hearing about where the debate will be held and the time. Guessing the Tampa Convention Center and an evening debate, but have not heard as yet.

Also wonder how tickets will be offered through various TP Movement grassroots groups sponsoring, and how many tickets will be available for each group.

Looking forward to knowing all the names of the candidates who will be on the stage! :)
