McConnell: Give Obama new powers on debt limit
Breitbart ^ | July 12, 2011 | Andrew Taylor

WASHINGTON (AP) - The top Republican in the Senate proposed on Tuesday giving President Barack Obama sweeping new power to, in effect, unilaterally increase the nation's debt limit to avoid a first-ever default on U.S. obligations. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., offered a new plan to allow the president to demand up to $2.4 trillion in new borrowing authority by the summer of next year in three separate submissions. Those increases in the so-called debt limit would automatically take effect unless both the Republican House and the Democratic Senate enact legislation specifically disapproving it.

Obama would be able to veto such legislation.

The GOP plan would require that Obama submit spending cuts along with his borrowing requests. But unlike the increase in the debt limit, they wouldn't automatically take effect.

The new mechanism would take the place of the White House debt negotiations between congressional leaders and Obama. Those talks over spending cuts and tax increases have grown increasingly acrimonious.

Just disband the congress and put a freaking crown on his head.

Not just no, but hell no.

McConnel, take your sorry ass back to Kentucky. The house, not the senate, not the president, the House has the Constitutional responsibility for all spending and taxes.

So not only FUBO, FUMM.

McConnell can propose whatever he wants. This monstrosity is DOA in the House.

If this is true what in the hell is wrong with McConnell? I just don’t believe this. This looks too stupid to believe.

Dear Obama....

Here... please take this rope, and HANG US WITH IT!!!

We simply don’t have the balls to do what needs to be done,

so we’ve decided to give you more power to over-rule our constitutional obligations.

Thank you,

Mitch McConnell

McConnell needs to resign his position as minority leader and as a Senator, and promptly disappear from politics entirely.

The link is breitbart but the article is AP. I’ll wait until there’s a more reliable source before accusing MCConnell of a sellout.

I am heartsick, at a loss for words!!! The Pubbies had POTUS Obama against the wall and....they not only let him up, they kissed his butt and told us common folks to beg off into a hole somewhere. The current Republican Party needs to be destroyed. McConnell and Boehner are now traitors, not only to the Pubbie Party but, to the entire country. They should have just walked out of the debt ceiling talks and told Obama, Geithner and the Democrat low life, call us when you get real!!! Methinks, Obama will succeed in destroying America!!!

Do I understand this right?

McConnell wants to give Obama the ability to raise the debt limit so everyone will blame Obama for raising it and not blame McConnell for giving Obama the authority in the first place?

Stupid party indeed!!!

So the GOP decided it best to give Obama absolute power so that they could continue being the minority party, and have no blame in the outcome? Screw the country, the GOP’ers just wants to keep their jobs.

It’s going to be a rough transition, but it’s time for the TeaParty to replace these gutless, self-serving pigs.

Let me get this straight. The president has no budget plan, and we simply shrug our shoulders and enable his irresponsible conduct.

There had better be a method to this madness!

I agree.

My political gut told me Obama was a two-termer when he was first elected, and I take some modest pride in being correct around 90% of the time. As of late, however, I had to admit, there was no foreseeable possibility that Obama could be re-elected, so I was going to chalk it up to that 10% when my political instincts are incorrect.

Now, and I must emphasize, if this is true (and if goes anywhere), your analysis is absolutely correct. The GOP is finished, as the conservative base would very likely abandon it under this particular set of circumstances, and that clears the way for a third-party Presidential candidacy, which is just enough of Obama to squeak by to a second term.

On a personal note, I very much enjoy reading your posts.

The republicans though need to start harping about the fact that they have to use the debt limit to force changes because the democrats still control the senate and agreement couldn’t be reached on a reasonable budget.
