Congress Grills NASA Chief Over Next Big Rocket Design (Answer was due in Jan of 2011)

A congressional panel grilled NASA chief Charlie Bolden today (July 12) on Capitol Hill, repeatedly asking him why the space agency has yet to choose a design for its next-generation heavy-lift rocket.

Last year Congress gave NASA until mid-January 2011 to pick a design for the rocket, known as the Space Launch System, that will carry astronauts on deep space missions. NASA still has not made an official decision, and members of the House of Representatives' Committee on Science, Space and Technology took Bolden to task.

"We've waited for answers that have not come. We've pleaded for answers that have not come," committee chairman Ralph Hall (R-Texas) told Bolden. "We've run out of patience."

Personally, I believe that if we get the right person in the White house, they will be able to defund the Left with Congressional cooperation. In many more instances then we know government funded NROs like ACORN are killing us.

It’s time to pull the plug on every one of them. It’s time to clean up our Universities. It’s time to do a thorough re-evaluation of a lot of what is going on in our government.

The agenda in schools needs to be turned around.

I could go on, but you catch my drift. Granted we do have work to do too, but our President and Congress must get their act together. When they do, this place will turn around very quickly.

Boehner needs to go. We must replace him with someone who truly gets it, and isn’t afraid to start making some demands and bold moves.

yeah basically all NASA does now is treat the Earth as its main focus, and as we know..(can you say Hansen & AGW.... And why isn’t Hansen fired and in jail he has routinely violated about a dozen civil service regulations !) it can’t even get that right!

What EVER.

With the economy precarious and likely to stay so until well into a non-Democrat administration, Republicans of all people should understand that, at best, there will be a dizzying array of possibilities, few if any worth pursuing further. Why not bring Congress itself into the question? They aren’t doing much good by carping. What best represents the will of the people?

I’m lucky that I was able to vote for a man who refused to promise money to the district. He didn’t say he wouldn’t bring any money into the district but he did say that we need to produce our own wealth and get the federal government’s hands off of it.

Its the right attitude.

No surprise here.
>Where is NASA headquartered? Houston, TEXAS

>Where are oil refineries idle because of Obama’s drilling moratorium? TEXAS

> What state was about burned off the map from wildfires before Obama f-i-n-a-l-l-y deigned to declare it a disaster area? TEXAS

> What are the voting proclivities of most TEXANS? Conservative.

> Who is thinking of a 2012 run against the Won? TEXAS governor Rick Perry.

> What state will be losing 1000s of jobs due to the end of the shuttle program? TEXAS

> What state has job growth and a booming economy which daily makes a fool of Obama? TEXAS.

Muzzle? Screw up the entire NASA program? If it will hurt Texas, Obama will do it. Texas must pay for being the stinkin’ thorn in Obie’s side - for showing Obie to be the marxist America-hating fool he is - for being a huge obstacle to Obie’s plan for mandatory States’ Submission to His Wonderfulness. Texas must pay for showing the rest of the nation that capitalism works and socialism fails. Obie says, “BAD Texas! BAD, BAD, BAD!”

Yes a framacated design with a bunch of solid rocket boosters bolted to it could be worked up quickly.

...whole lotta Gs on the way with propulsion systems in future launches. Women and dirty, old men affected most. ...propulsion systems that started development a long time ago, BTW.

We all need some money brought into our districts, and these people are our ombudsmen. All we should really ask, is that it be reasonable and above board.

As for keeping it minimalist, and doing whatever you can in your own district, that gets my blessing.

Roads, bridges, other infrastructure sometimes requires federal dollars. If locals can find a way to do that too, excellent.

I honestly think that’s what we should be shooting for, so my opening may have been a bit too forgiving.

A simple example would be the F111 swing wing fighter bomber. One group wanted a fighter, which mean small, agile, maneuverable and fast. Another group wanted a bomber.

Not quite (it was worse)

The airforce wanted an aircraft, nominally a "fighter". whose real purpose was to sit in a bunker in West Germany, until Der Tag. When it would head out, easterly, just above the tree tops, carrying what the military likes to call a "special store" in its belly. This said a big heavy aircraft with the structure strength and fuel load to punch through the thick turbulent air at ground level.

The navy's fighter actually had to carry a far heavier load of six Phoenix missiles up to altitude, then cruise around slowly, burning as little fuel as possible.

Result, a big heavy aircraft (too big to operate off carriers) with an engine originally planned for a mid-50s commercial jet. Not a happy marriage.

No kidding.
If you lay all the NASA managers end-to-end, they still won't reach a decision!
