Frankly this bill to ban incandescents is discrimination.

ALL 'bills' are!

Many homes have tubes, either straight or circular, as fixtures in bathrooms, kitchens, and basements where their utilitarian character makes sense.

Sparse use in notable places, if at all.
Not as the dominant lighting devices throughout the home.

I’ve a couple CFLs in hard-to-reach seldom-used locations (garage, porches) where replacement is a pain and light quality is irrelevant.

Point is that that aside from a tiny number of isolated applications (look, this is a blog post, not a comprehensive tome detailing all exceptions, variations, and justifications - reasonably understood generalizations are the norm, and attacking them for lack of total comprehension is stupid), most/many people who have smashed a mercury-based light has reconsidered further use.

Somehow despite the widespread usage of fluorescents in kitchens, places that are rife with kids underfoot, nobody ever considered the breakage of a tube there (and they each have more mercury than the screwbulbs do) to be an event worth anything more urgent than a good sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping — and that for the sake of the broken glass.

The only place I have them is in “always on” locations.
Turning these things on and off shortens their lives to about 1/4 that of an incandescent (in my experience).

That’s why mine aren’t being replaced as they burn out, and will be swapped out for proper nontoxic pleasant-spectrum lighting when the last tube dies.

Black market only. I have the connections. Let me know how much you’ll need.

I will as soon as we finish converting our Victorian over to fuel lighting.

What is sad is, since the repeal went down in flames, incandescent bulbs will soon be black market.

They will, and FAST, if christmas lights and flashlights are any indicators. Virtually overnight car tail/brakelights changed to led. and those blinders on top of cop cars? WOW!

I love my LED maglite along with some of my smaller flashlights that are LED, and cannot wait for the LED bulbs to show up with affordable prices. I could think of some cool things to do in my shop and the kitchen with some strips of LED lights, and have been tempted to rig something up with some of those Christmas lights.

Toal malarkey. An incandescent bulb gives off FAR more "infrared" than an LED. The only LED's that produce infrared emissions are those specifically tailored to do so, and they emit ONLY a specific spectral band in the infrared. And all "non-infrared" LED's produce virtually ZERO infrared, emitting only a narrow band around their specific designed-in output wavelength.

You may think what you like but for whatever reasons they work. Try it sometime when you have an ache or pain or other health problem. You will be amazed and possibly much better for it.

Not really weird. It is not uncommon for people to have similar or worse reactions. My husband gets migraines, nausea and vomiting when exposed to florescent lighting. My sister in law will go into epileptic seizures if she has to sit under florescents for a long time.

Maybe we all with these health related problem with florescents need to be able to medical incandescents with a prescription.

I like that idea, but then there is the whole ‘will insurance cover it’ and FDC approval, and the price will go up to $100 per bulb.

"You may think what you like but for whatever reasons they work."

It's not a question of "what I think". It's a question of what the facts of science are, and they are as I stated them. "LED therapy" may indeed have some beneficial results (treatment of infants for jaundice, for instance) through use of specific isolated wavelengths at high intensity, but the mere emission of infrared is not the reason.

If those rope lights (led) go bad, you have a LOT of good leds in that string!
