A schoolboy was killed and two bystanders were injured when an unknown gunman shot the student before opening fire at people shopping at a market in Pattani yesterday morning.

an attack by southern insurgents on a Buddhist religious day as the motive.
Pattani Governor Nipon Narapitakkul said that he believed the attack was a result of the region's unrest, where insurgents harm Thai Buddhists to incite disunity and distrust between Thai Buddhists and Muslims in Panare district, which is made up of 60 per cent Buddhists and 40 per cent Muslims.
More than 4,500 people have been killed and nearly 9,000 wounded in the three southernmost provinces since the separatist violence started afresh in January 2004.
In related news, a Cambodian Muslim man was arrested along with some video clips of alleged arms training and war violence at the Sa Kaew province border checkpoint yesterday, as Thai authority suspected he might be involved in the southern unrest.

RIP.
This is a seemingly never ending situation. This Southern area of Thailand is on the border of the mostly Muslim country Malaysia. I was there working with the Thai Army and Thai police in the late 1960’s when it was then an on going problem... Since Thailand is overwhelmingly Buddhist, the Muslims can never seem to make much headway. And the Thai authorities (police and army) can be quite ruthless... But Islam has a new head of steam and well who knows.
I’m not usually one to root for police violence and over-reaction to citizens actions, but in this case, I’ll happily look the other way if and when the Thai police take the Muslims to the woodshed for anything worse than spitting on the sidewalk.
I hope to be in South Thailand and Bangkok by January 2012 or so. I’ll keep my eyes open and send FR some updates from time to time.
When the Buddhists first encountered the Muslims in Central Asia and Afghanistan (remember the Bamiyan Buddhas?), the Buddhist reaction was no reaction at all. The Buddhists tamely submitted to the Muslims. No they did not embrace Islam en masse; they just gave themselves up for being slaughtered en masse by the Muslims.
Many of the Buddhists never learned to resist the Muslims. Even when the Muslims raided famous Buddhist Universities like Nalanda in India’s Bihar province, the Buddhists died en masse when the Muslim swordsmen slaughtered them like hyena would devour a clutch of rabbits in a cage.

the Buddhists of Thailand momentarily overcame the moral scruples that Buddhism imposed on them of being utterly non-violent and launched a counter-offensive against the Jihadis who had begun ravaging Southern Thailand in the 17th century. Only to be lulled back in to apathy of non-violence in to the 21st century to invite upon themselves another round of attacks from the Muslim Malays from the 1980s which have escalated especially after 9/11. But the Thais have fought back the Jihad to preserve Thailand as a Buddhist island amidst a Muslim Ocean
Well, I sincerely doubt that the “insurgents” are Buddhists.
Buddhism IS the real religion of peace, and will stand no chance against the vicious Muslim onslaught
Exactly—Jihadists. By the way, there are two American citizens and 1 Filipino national being held hostage after a kidnapping by jihadists in the Philippines. I haven’t seen the story anywhere in the MSM, probably because it reinforces the Muslim stereotype. They were abducted in Zamboanga City and are presumed to be held on the island of Basilan, an Abu Sayaaf stronghold. We have special forces troops training the Filipinos but they won’t allow Americans to take part in a rescue attempt. That resulted in disaster in the rescue of missionaries Gracia Burnham and her husband. He was killed along with a Filipino nurse. Their troops didn’t have the equipment to stage a night raid like we would have.
This is the kind of shite that radical Muslims get up to, These Islamofascists are the scourge of the earth and should be treated as such.
I was 99.99% sure. The tip off is when they use crypto-speak.

They are picking a fight with the whole world. I don't subscribe to Buddhism, but they are peaceful from what I see.

I seem to remember this incident.
Election time cannot come soon enough. We desperately need to chart a new course. Obama is allying America with jihadists.
