Obama praises 'Gang of Six' plan

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Time running short to raise the government's borrowing limit, President Barack Obama on Tuesday hailed a plan by a bipartisan senators' group on deficit reduction as the kind of "balanced approach" the nation is looking for. He said it's time for Congress as a whole to rally around such a proposal.

"We don't have any more time to engage in symbolic gestures, we don't have any more time to posture. It's time to get down to the business of actually solving this problem," the president said.

Obama spoke even as House Republicans pushed toward a vote on legislation that would require trillions in spending cuts and a balanced-budget constitutional amendment in exchange for an increase in the debt ceiling. That plan is unlikely to get through the Senate, and Obama has said he would veto it.

Facing an Aug. 2 deadline to raise the debt limit, Obama said he would call House Speaker John Boehner after the vote to invited him and other leaders back to the White House for meetings in coming days.

When will the lamebrain media pull the trigger on DoJ and its complicity in a 'Fast&Furious' developing scandal?

Not only NEVER, but it will be used as an EXCUSE to DESTROY the Second Amendment.

The RINOs in the Senate keep getting re-elected every election cycle.

They got rich there. When the economy crashes (which it will, because it's too late and all this talk is nothing but buying time), they can just hop on their private jets and flee the country.
There was a reason Bush bought 100,000 acres of land in Paraguay. The writing was already on the wall. He knew Fanny and Freddie would start the crash. He was there.
(I hope everyone here is preparing. Soon, that door will be closed)

“The House will also have to pass this right? It’s not over yet.”

It’s been over since last week. Any strong resistance to it in the House will be portrayed as a Republican civil war by the MSM. Republicans are unstable and can’t govern, etc., etc. Get ready for an avalanche of scum that will make 2012 a slam dunk for barry. He will just run as being the great moderate and the soccer moms will buy it.

Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.)

I do not care what it takes to defeat this scumbag, I will do it. Under no circumstances will he ever receive my vote.

Siding with Dick Durbin? That means you are a drawling Dick Durbin.

The hacks on both sides are so set in the “business as usual ways”.
They are the ones who have created this crisis (present and pasts congress’s). They are incapable of solving it. Only a new tea party minded congress can save this country. It is my belief that a default is coming. It’s just a matter of when. Within a decade, for sure.

I see nothing in that PDF specifically about FY 2012. This looks like an obama speech to me. All sizzle and no steak.

...74 percent of the plan’s deficit-reduction goal would come from spending cuts and 26 percent from higher revenues.

With only $500 billion coming up front - the rest of the "cuts" will be pushed away, re-arranged, and finagled out of existence while the actual tax increases will hit every single person starting IMMEDIATELY!! I will need to read and know more, but I don't like this setup - just like with H. W. Bush - don't worry, we will take care of this later - then WHAM - We the people... find ourselves bent over a wooden horse like Marcellus Wallace!!!

“What the he!! good is higher taxes going to do if nobody is working and the market is tanked? “

It will help fund the cushy retirement benefits of the present and past congresscritters who created this country killing debt. While they are enjoying their cushy retirements, americans will be paying a huge price.

It’s just a matter of when. Within a decade, for sure.

Millions of Americans are without jobs. That means even more welfare. The talk is about default, but has nothing to do with welfare reform or jobs. Million more on welfare will require billions more in spending. Where's that money going to come from?
Add the cost of additional health care for illegals and those who are now without work, and we've got even bigger problems coming - sooner rather than later.

I hope everyone here is becoming as self sufficient as possible. People are going to have to learn to get by with nothing.

You are not an alarmist. But a realist. I have started to order dehydrated and freeze-dried foods. Something I have never done.
The default is coming. So, I going to try to be prepared.

The DC bunch are incapable of solving the mounting debt.
Which means something bad will have to happen, before anything changes.

ATTENTION. MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE.

Will the following states please refrain from sending the following non conservatives back to the US Senate: Idaho (Crapo); Georgia (Chambliss); Oklahoma (Coburn).

You may want to investigate how to conduct a recall in your state.

This is the end of our announcement. Please return to your Vaseline application procedures and be ready to grab your ankles when notice is given.

Thank you.

“Yeah....higher taxes NOW, spending cuts LATER (if ever).”

The rope-a-dope that lead to the famous “Read My Lips”. Do we ever learn anything from history?

According to your link the AMT would be eliminated and the only tax hikes mentioned are not tax rates on the rich or cap gains hikes, but the closing of loopholes.

Doesn't look like a terrible plan yet but the devil is of course in the details.

ARTICLE I....Section. 7.
Clause 1: All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.

I was watching FOX News about 20 minutes ago and Major Garrett said it was now a GANG OF SEVEN, my money is its McAwful who was on Hannity Radio yesterday and was already doing a McConnell “give it up”. O the Spectre of 1995 keeps haunting the RINO’s. Better to give over the country to Obama adn save our Senate Asses is what they really mean.

Yeah, it’s hard to really nail it down from that, but I think they’re trying to show the immediate cuts by quoting $500B in the next five years. Still bogus, of course.

Also, note all of the tax rates being quoted in ranges. (You just know that we’ll get the highest numbers.)

Also, how they like to quote the baseline change from Obama’s proposed monstrosity of a budget that got zero votes in the Senate.
