Wassim Fayad, 43, is the second man charged over an attack on Christian Martinez at Silverwater in Sydney's west on Sunday.
Police say the 31-year-old was held face down on his bed early Sunday morning and lashed 40 times with an electrical cord for drinking alcohol.
The victim has told police he was being punished under sharia law for drinking alcohol.
In opposing bail the prosecutor told Burwood Local Court the victim fears for his safety because his alleged attackers know where he lives.
