she chased Vaughn Matthews, a career criminal with a dozen arrests going back 19 years, down a stairwell, but when she tried to get her bag from him, he lashed out, breaking her wrist and punching her in the stomach. That reads like he was one or two steps down from her. His shoulders level with her belly button. Perfect geometry for a devastating kick. Lucky he blocked it with his chin, a bit higher impact point and he could be dead.
