This is devastating. Boehner has caved

My God! I wish I had a nickel for every time I have read this exact same sentiment on FR over the past several weeks. I would be very wealthy, the debt limit debate would still be standing as "no deal", Speaker Boehner would still be holding out against obambis tantrums, the democrats would still be losing ground, and all of the Chicken Little's would still be running their collective blood pressure through the top of their heads!

Save your energy, people! Nothing has happened yet!

And if the six Democrats don’t agree with the six Republicans and the President veto’s anything they come up with?

Then we go into default 6 months before the election..Absolutely perfect, in my view.

Did I miss it, or did Rush completely ignore the Norway psycho tragedy?

If Boehner proposes $1 trillion in cuts this fiscal year, I will be swayed to the GOP position.

Absolutely right. People should remember - if we take 1 trillion off of this year, we will still be running a .5-1 trillion dollar deficit in FY2011. And it's all stuff that wasn't in the budget before up come Obama, mmmmm, mmmmm, mmmmm.

I'm with you guys. Maintain the ceiling, cut spending by 40% - 50% and negotiate new terms with our creditors/bond holders is our only chance to recover from this without a reset.

Increasing the ceiling may only buy us a few months of stability at best. Obama, even now, could be making making plans to ignore the debt ceiling and both houses. Who's gonna stop him?

Prepare indeed!

Absolutely worthless. Just kicks the problem down the road..

Republican leadership: 'It's not a perfect plan', what an understatement.

No surprise here. This latest exercise moves the can down the road into a town called Default. Republicans, you will have to answer to a livid electorate.

I think we are in agreement on this then, even if I sounded a bit more harsh in expressing my desire to get started with the resolution of the problem.

My God! I wish I had a nickel for every time I have read this exact same sentiment on FR over the past several weeks.”

Pathetic isn’t it?

Boehner has Obama stuttering, he has Reid pushing a no-tax-increases plan after weeks of saying that was impossible ... and, he is about to pass a 2-step plan that will force Obama to look like the stubborn fool Nero who fiddles while Rome burns - or look like a paper tiger.

I am not saying our leaders are playing it great, its frustrating me as well, BUT, they are doing a heck of a lot better than many die-hard conservatives give them credit for.

“For those of you who think the GOP can be reformed,”

For those of you who falsely claim the GOP has NOT been and is not being reformed, I think a few moments with Senators Jim Demint, Ron Johnson, Marco Rubio, Mike Lee, and Jeff Session, and Govs Chris Cristie, John Kasich, Nikki Haley, Bobby Jindhal, and Gov Walker, should disabuse you of that conceit.

“We do not need a third party, but a second party would be nice.”

You asked for it, you got it. A party, IF YOU KEEP IT.

“do you have a target date to accomplish this miracle, or is your patience infinite? “
What was the Minnesota shutdown, chopped liver? What about REp Ryans’ roadmap and the scorn heaped on that?
What about Cut, Cap and Balance, now passed by majority in the House, that is so wrong.

THE ONLY THING WRONG IS WE DONT OWN THE SENATE AND THE WHITE HOUSE. It’s a situation that cannot be remedied before Nov 2012.

“or is your patience infinite? “
You will need patience. You cannot overturn Obama’s policies with him in the White House and you cant run the government with a mere House majority. Nov 2012!

Pathetic isn’t it?

It's gone well past pathetic and into sublime. I've been here since early 1998 and have never seen FR this full of knee-jerk screamers and that's saying something considering how bloody the 2000 election season was.

“I think Speaker Boehner just gets stronger and more confident. He is the one driving the agenda and going with the short term fix adds to that control.”

IF he gets his plan through and signed, they will be saying that. It’s a tall IF though; Reid is balking as is Obama.

Pass it through the House, call it a day, stand back and watch the Democrats freak out.

I can sympathize. I selfdiagnosed myself with Obama Derangement Syndrome a few weeks back. Our President is literally driving me crazy. I keep it under control by not listening to the President and admitting up front that every word he says is a lie told for his re-election.

What people are trying to do is get our leader to be their channel of all that angst, anger, opposition and desire for change. There is NO WAY that any politician could satisfy all that desire. NOBODY will fix our problems instantly, because the folks who CAUSED the problems have most of the power in DC!

I don’t think people really understand just how ugly things could get if the election appears, as summer of 2012 ends, to be going against Urkel. A lot of people are at the brink and putting way too much hope into this next election cycle. At least more so than in my lifetime (I’m 57). I expect pretty severe conflict no matter who ends up winning. And I expect it to begin before the election itself.

I think things will be MUCH worse than they are now, and the country will be absolutely on the edge anyway.

This is all fine and good, but we are conservatives and therefore lead with our minds, not our emotions. Discipline is supposed to be our first rule. Without it, we are no better than the very goons we're trying to stop.

I agree with you. Certainly Boehner is a much better poker player than Mr. Dithers. Let's see how it all plays out.
