The Cult That Is Destroying America (Krugman :"Obama is a conservative")
NY times Opinion ^ | July 26, 2011 | Paul Krugman

Posted on 07/26/2011 8:32:13 PM PDT by sickoflibs

Watching our system deal with the debt ceiling crisis — a wholly self-inflicted crisis, which may nonetheless have disastrous consequences — it’s increasingly obvious that what we’re looking at is the destructive influence of a cult that has really poisoned our political system.

And no, I don’t mean the fanaticism of the right. Well, OK, that too. But my feeling about those people is that they are what they are; you might as well denounce wolves for being carnivores. Crazy is what they do and what they are.

No, the cult that I see as reflecting a true moral failure is the cult of balance, of centrism.

Think about what’s happening right now. We have a crisis in which the right is making insane demands, while the president and Democrats in Congress are bending over backward to be accommodating — offering plans that are all spending cuts and no taxes, plans that are far to the right of public opinion.

(clip)

The reality, of course, is that we already have a centrist president — actually a moderate conservative president. Once again, health reform — his only major change to government — was modeled on Republican plans, indeed plans coming from the Heritage Foundation. And everything else — including the wrongheaded emphasis on austerity in the face of high unemployment — is according to the conservative playbook.

“...Democrats in Congress are bending over backward to be accommodating (lie) — offering plans (lie) that are all spending cuts (lie) and no taxes (lie), plans that are far to the right of public opinion (lie).”

Five lies in three lines. He’s slipping a bit.

Watching our system deal with the debt ceiling crisis — a wholly self-inflicted crisis, which may nonetheless have disastrous consequences — it’s increasingly obvious that what we’re looking at is the destructive influence of a cult that has really poisoned our political system.

Would those be the folks who chanted -"0-ba-ma", "0-ba-ma", Paulie? You're right, they reminded me of a really creepy cult.

And no, I don’t mean the fanaticism of the right. Well, OK, that too. But my feeling about those people is that they are what they are; you might as well denounce wolves for being carnivores. Crazy is what they do and what they are.

So we're not going get a piece of thinking from you, the thing you want us to do a few paragraphs down. My feeling about you is similar: You might as well denounce Krugman for being an ignorant Marxist. Nothing crazy about it, really, it's what he does and the American people categorically reject it.

No, Paulie, these are not insane demands. What is insane is defending an entity that takes in $6 billion a day and borrows $4 billion above that. Every day. E-v-e-r-y d-a-y. Got it, Paulie? You are saying it is insane to demand that this piece of mathematical impossibility stop is "insane"? That would make you...pathologically delusional? Retarded? What's the word?

So what do most news reports say? They portray it as a situation in which both sides are equally partisan, equally intransigent — because news reports always do that. And we have influential pundits calling out for a new centrist party, a new centrist president, to get us away from the evils of partisanship.

Yes, let's consult news reports because they are so accurate, so accountable, and if they lead us astray, they'll be there to apologize...? More Paulie smartness.

You're not qualified to discuss reality, Paulie. You've already established that. But that's cool, misstate half a dozen other things too. Once you've proven yourself batshit crazy, what's a few more delusions thrown into the mix?

What all this means is that there is no penalty for extremism; no way for most voters, who get their information on the fly rather than doing careful study of the issues, to understand what’s really going on.

Thanks, I'll read the NYTimes to get my version of the truth, that what's you're saying?" Do I puke or laugh in your face?

You have to ask, what would it take for these news organizations and pundits to actually break with the convention that both sides are equally at fault? This is the clearest, starkest situation one can imagine short of civil war. If this won’t do it, nothing will.

And yes, I think this is a moral issue. The “both sides are at fault” people have to know better; if they refuse to say it, it’s out of some combination of fear and ego, of being unwilling to sacrifice their treasured pose of being above the fray.

It’s a terrible thing to watch, and our nation will pay the price.

If the ravings of a proven lunatic unfortunately elevated to a position of commentator in a widely read newspaper that once had some credibility had any usefulness, people would listen. As things are, it's a gimme for Paul Krugman that he can say so many goofball things at once. Once you've shown yourself batshit crazy, what difference does it make if you blather four or five more pieces of blather?

Paul are you out of your mind? Obama is a Conservative?

You are known by who you associate with.

Obama’s close friend and confidante Bill Ayers wants to destroy this nation and murder thirty million Americans who don't agree with him.

Obama sought out Marxist professors during his college years.

Obama Sat in Reverend Wrights “Church” for twenty years.

Obama Has hired numerous czars, many of which profess being Communist, Marxist, Marxist socialist or Socialist.

Obama is not far left. He is radical left. When you look at his policies, he is Marxist Socialist.

The only one who might see Obama as a moderate conservative would have to be extreme radical Communist, far far far far left. Is that your problem Paul?

Actually, Krugman is a genius here. He knows how to push Obama’s buttons and he’s doing it. The left is calling Obama out. It’s a sham of course, they will support him again as soon as this farce ends. This is all just part of the negotiating process for Krugman and the like.

Krugman is a frigging academic economist. You could read an entire year of his columns, and if you didn’t know it was Krugman, it would never dawn on you that he had any more economic knowledge than theater critic Frank Rich.

Krugman is attaching the words “conservative playbook” to Obama’s failures for obvious and desperate reasons.
He has no balls to say that Obama is a failure period.

The only way Obama the Marxist could be considered a “conservative” is to other Marxists who are “more marxist then he is.

As yuri said...
It happened in Grenada when Maurice Bishop, he was already a Marxist - he was executed by the new Marxists who was more Marxist than this Marxist.

Same happened in Afghanistan, when, uh, first there was Taraki he was killed by Amin, then Amin was killed by Karmal with the help of KGB.

Same happened in Bangladesh where Mujibur Rahman, very pro-soviet leftist; was assassinated by his own Marxist-Leninist military comrades.

I came here to understand the present problems of the uS .

In my opinion the worst problem is not the huge economic problems not the FED buying your own extrem deficit and creating a huge inflation, not the unemployment and the huge private deficit and on and on.

The US lost the ability to solve these problems and it does not really matter if they come to a last minute result here.

If you go on with that political war and blame game instead of creating solutions things will become worse and worse.

I am from germany we had and have a lot of problems but at the end of the day from the left to the right from the unions to the companies there will be a solution. I might take a long time as for example the reunification costs.

Your political system and culture is really scary at least for me.

Good grief, these lefties are really bat sh*t crazy.

The idea, I guess, is to try and talk about Obama as a center right guy. What a joke.

That Bernie Sanders is playing the same game.

People need to understand that the Left does move the goalposts in language, culture, morality and ultimately, in removing unwanted parts of history they want to erase.

The Left has no "center", no anchor. They just have the constant lighthouse of Marxism-Leninism and the challenge of driving us all into their concentration camp. They're therefore reality-absolved, their only points of reference being the lighthouse of doctrine and our points of resistance, so that in a sense, they revolve around us, and their speech and conceptualization therefore revolves around whatever it takes to move us away from our anchors, our reality, and toward their Red doctrinal goal.

Their existence is therefore wholly derivative and relativistic -- relative to where we are and where their goals are. There's no room for reality or science or logic or "truth" in any of that.

Thinking THE most liberal Senator in Senate is a mderate makes a person a Marxist. No other way to view it.
