New Boehner Version (Cut Cap and Balance it ain't)
NRO ^ | 7/27/11 | Rich Lowry

We’re hearing it now cuts $917 billion over ten years under the more recent CBO baseline. So under $1 trillion. On the other hand, the cuts are apparently more front-loaded: $20 billion in real cuts in the first year.

I agree.

First:
We have to get to the election and get those Independents to see Boehner ‘compromised’. We WILL lose the Independents
IF WE REFUSE to at least appear reasonable now.

second:
Any cuts are directly tied to the Debt limit. No passing of the cuts, no raising of the debt limit.that is written into this law.

third:
More cuts kick in and if they aren’t ‘real” we go back to the Debt Ceiling.

Fourth:
It averts a Bond meltdown and interest raising because the Bond Market sees we are going in the right DIRECTION on CUTS. THE MARKETS don’t care about the Debt ceiling, they care about our actual Debt.

Fifth:
We put Obama in a re-run of this fiasco BEFORE the election!

Now, if those on Freep who want to scream about “to hell with this, just let it go if we can’t get the kind of cuts we want”..to them, I will say Congratulations when Obama wins in 2012!

“the cut is $22 billion in fiscal year 2012”

What is that, about 3.5 days of current spending?

Put another zero after it and I’ll be willing to hear more.

It isn’t what we had hoped for, but remember, you can still win a game with a lot of base hits.

We’re only in the first inning, but as long as we keep getting singles, we can still win the game come November 2012...

"No. That’s the beauty of the design. It is in two tranches. Obama and the Democrats don’t have to sign onto it just once. They sign on twice. They will have their fingerprints on it."

WE NEED APPROXIMATELY $4 TRILLION IN CUTS TO PREVENT A DOWNGRADE...

Seriously, why is this so difficult for people to understand? Do you want the GOP's fingerprints all over this outcome?

PEOPLE!!!!

Hello, we have to set ourselves up for November. We can’t do jack in real reforms until we have the senate and the White House. We will NOT get that if we blow this entirely with zero compromise platforms.

Look at the long story, look at the bigger picture. We have bigger fish to fry, and we can’t light the fire yet. We need the matches and the hibachi we don’t yet have.

Re: your last paragraph...I get a chuckle out of Freepers that seem to relish in the idea of a true national default, and the chaos it would cause, failing to realize what it would do to those of us still managing to hang on in this economic fiasco. It’s almost as bad as the born-agains who gleefully await the end of days.

If the House passes this the ball is in Obama’s court. It is very modest. Obama will be the obstructionist if he does not go along.

Yes, its lousy.

But we have only HALF the congress!

The Dems have the senate and the presidency. Untill we get the Presidency and hopefully the Senate we are stymied.

If the conservatives really mean business...they will move forward with this, and then we at least have a shot at the Independents. Just conservatives , no matter how many go to the polls can not realistically get rid of Obama in 2012.

I know many disagree, but I say get SOMETHING THROUGH THE SENATE...then GO FOR 2012 and begin reversing and undoing all the Bozo’s crimes against this country.

Obama will veto anything the Republicans present that doesn't include raising taxes
How much you want to bet?

I agree.

Even if we don’t get a “default” if we show we are at least GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION with cutting the debt, we will avert the bond Market crisis, rising interest rates and a great chance at getting the Independents on our side for 2012.

This big a chunk of FY2012 is going to smash GDP next year and increase unemployment
You absolutely cannot be serious. You forgot the </sarcasm> tag.

BO gave the few hundred Black farmers more than $20 billion in “walking around money.” Saving $22 Billion out of a four trillion dollar budget isn’t worth considering. Every “TEA Party” congressman needs to be voted out of the House next year.

The Boehner plan can at least FORCE the Dems and Obama onto
the defensive...and then its the Dems and the Pres’s mess.

cutting 150 Billion more wouldn’t work or BOEHNER WOULD HAVE DONE IT!

You call 2% of the total in the first year, and 4% in the second year “front loaded”?!

"...failing to realize what it would do to those of us still managing to hang on in this economic fiasco."

I owe my bank $400K on my credit line.

I'm as vigilant as anyone here on FR, but I also don't relish the thought of seeing my interest rate rise because of a default.

And as icing on the cake, I'm also running a business in Commie-fornia, which technically means that I'm already on "Death Row"...

So I’m trying to look for the pony in this big pile of hooey and this is all I can find:

Nobody could conceivably make the argument in 2012 that divided government is better than letting the GOP have both halves of Congress and the White House.

There’s no cutting government down to size unless the we get a Republican Senate and President in 2012.
