Skip to comments.New Boehner Version (Cut Cap and Balance it ain't)

Were hearing it now cuts $917 billion over ten years under the more recent CBO baseline. So under $1 trillion. On the other hand, the cuts are apparently more front-loaded: $20 billion in real cuts in the first year.
I wash my hands of them.
Cut spending NOW! Who gives a rats ass about spending cuts down the road. The dems want a trillion $ debt limit increase. Fine - cut $1 trillion in spending in the next 12 months. All these backloaded bull$#!+ cuts will never happen....red
So, essentially they’re only cutting Obama’s golfing budget by a few percent.
Congress HAS to get Something done. Correct me if Im wrong, but they have actually been in Washington 6 or 7 days working. I mean, we have August Recess coming up. Obama has to get on with his birthday party and vacation plans. The Lobbyists have the Congressional junkets planes and hotels booked and tee times are set. Lots more important things for our leaders to do than stay in DC and take care of the country.
I just heard on the hourly radio news that the Republicans are now offering Obambi a large enough blank check to take him past the 2012 elections. Our only saving grace now is for Texas to secede and to open their borders to only Tea Party supporters. Calgon, take me away!
This is substantial improvement.
Remember, this is only tranche 1. This not not FY2012. This is to extend at most to Q2 FY2012, about February. Additional cuts kick in then, or the debt ceiling is re-imposed.
This is a surprising increase in FY2012 cuts. It will without question reduce FY2012 GDP and increase unemployment, but that’s the price of getting real cuts.
Now the buzz word required to fight the battle in the polls is how Boehner has COMPROMISED with Democrats, even as this plan cuts MORE than the original.
NEVER EVER FORGET. This battle is going to be won at the polls. Just as the 1990s government shutdown was won by Clinton because Gingrich did not fight the battle in front of the camera, the way Boehner is doing.
So the time has now come to talk about how gentle and gradual these cuts are and how they are THE ONLY REAL COMPROMISE.
2 hours ago Michele Bachmann tweeted that SHE is holding firm on the cuts!
OK, that’s fine, it buys us time.
Bambi is apparently planning to issue an “executive order” to circumvent all of this, so I’d say we’ve got to get our plan (even if seriously imperfect) into place right now or it’s all over.
Nobody is going to dare to oppose his “executive order” and this will mean the beginning of a single-party dictatorship.
Here’s MY plan:
Take the 2009 budget, the last one passed by Congress, and cut out the discretionary spending an pork barrel crap and pass it.
The Dems voted for it in 2008, so they can’t bitch about it now........
RE: Clarifying: Were told the cut is $22 billion in fiscal year 2012 from the adjusted CBO baseline, and $42 billion in fiscal year 2013.
This is even smaller than the $60 Billion the GOP was threatening to prune in the 2011 budget earlier this year before they chickened out.
What do these legislators take us for, fools?
So, essentially it appears we are right back to the same old political bu!!sh!t!
Major cuts on paper and an increase in the budget for new spending in reality!
Anyone by now have the d@mn capital phone number memorized yet???
So basically $22 Billion of future increase will get cut, if they abide by the deal, which is not likely. Because we all know this deal does not bind future Congresses.
These yahoos burn through $4 trillion a year and want over a $ trillion more to spend and Boehner can only scrape up $22 billion to cut in 2012 and $42 billion in 2013?
It’s the spending, stupid!! Cut it or go home!!
Stage a damn revolt and replace his a$$!
Am I over simplifying this? Why can't they just tell him to step aside and let the REAL men and women lead if he won't?
I am so sick of Boehner and these damnable RINOs I could spit!!!
SCOTUS will. Followed up with IMPEACHMENT.
Allan West already saved before the CBO report.
Boehner needed to cut 150 BILLION more.
He could have done it for 2012 BUT DID NOT.
He is not serious about cutting spending
does this bill include the unconstitutional “Super Congress” or any other silly and or dangerous gimmick?
people will flame me but i agree with you....if they try and cut $1tillion over the next two years it never passes and they look unreasonable....
this is a reasonable plan and ayatollah obama will NEVER sign it- hence the hammer falls on his head- constantly if the GOP constantly hammers him...
Even the "draconian" Ryan plan would not have been nearly enough.
“I wash my hands of them.”
Me too. Boehner has mismanaged this whole thing from the get go. By pushing this alternative, he undercut the more viable CCB. Then after the CBO revealed the shortcomings of his own plan, he lashes out at the Tea Party. I’m done with him and McConnel.
If this ain't a WTF moment, I don't know what is.
Why would you want to remove him? This moves RIGHTWARD, and does so in a way that he can talk about how he’s willing to compromise.
NEVER EVER FORGET that the winner of this battle is whoever polls strongest by pollsters, and to do that he has to swing the independents. If the polls go heavily against Boehner, we’d be going against THE PEOPLE.
So optimal strategy is to do what he’s doing. THESE ARE NOW LEGIT CUTS. He’s taking a significant chunk off FY2012. It’s 10X more than he took of FY2011. This big a chunk of FY2012 is going to smash GDP next year and increase unemployment, and that’s the price of cuts. This took courage to do, and it’s a winning strategy for One Particular Reason:
He’s right: When things get chaotic and we have this concrete, properly computed plan on the table, the Senate will fold. They have too many Dem Senators fearful of Tea Party backlash. They will cave.
And then Obama would be faced with a bill both houses passed.
This is a pretty good FIRST TRANCHE. (The second comes in Feb with even more cuts). It’s not “as good as we can get”. It’s good. It’s not perfect. Nothing ever is or ever will be. But this is flat out good.
$22 billion.....$22 BILLION?! WE’RE TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN THE HOLE, AND THAT’S THE BEST THE WEEPER CAN DO?!?!?!? OBAMA SPENDS $22 BILLION BEFORE HE GRABS HIS GOLF BAG IN THE MORNING!
Sorry. I tend to get angry when I watch my country slide into the Third World.
All he had to do was dump it in the lap of the Senate and walk out.
He would have got it and even if he didn't just letting the country default would have given us the cuts we needed by doing nothing!!
It must be in the political gene's that makes them grab defeat out of the hands of victory time and time again.
Somebody kick that tanned ass out of congress and get a real man to take his position.
"This is substantial improvement...Now the buzz word required to fight the battle in the polls is how Boehner has COMPROMISED with Democrats..."
This plan does very little to address the long-term debt problem, and (if passed into law) when our AAA credit rating gets downgraded in short order, the administration and the MSM will be clear to place all of the blame upon the "faulty Boehner bill"...
$22 B in year one? Disappointing. Of course, Hussein wants none.
I increasingly believe what Rush said several times today: we have to win more elections. If we had a few more Senators and Representatives, we could override Hussein’s veto.
” Fine - cut $1 trillion in spending in the next 12 months”
Otherwise, no deal!
This plan does very little to address the long-term debt problem, and (if passed into law) when our AAA credit rating gets downgraded in short order, the administration and the MSM will be clear to place all of the blame upon the “faulty Boehner bill”...
No. That’s the beauty of the design. It is in two tranches. Obama and the Democrats don’t have to sign onto it just once. They sign on twice. They will have their fingerprints on it.
Blame can’t work.
Well, if this is the best we can get, do it and then get rid of Boehner!
Called my freshman Congressman, Bill Johnson (R-OH). Office reports Johnson will do the will of his District; as opposed to the will of the Washington establishment. Johnson settles for nothing less than the Cap, Cut, and Balance bill he co-sponsored.
Thank you for doing the right thing, Representative Johnson.
“So the time has now come to talk about how gentle and gradual these cuts are and how they are THE ONLY REAL COMPROMISE.”
With all due and sincere respect, we are at the edge of the insolvency cliff. The real debt far exceeds $14T, and is likely closer to $80T. Boehner’s plan is like re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic. I find it difficult to accept the idea of a compromise when dealing with matters of national insolvency.
Shhh...don’t bring sanity to the debate!
Give me a trillion dollars today for which I will gladly return in ten years. Maybe.
When, in heaven’s name, will our conservative representatives in D.C. pull the curtain away from this whole ‘baseline budgeting’ scam. Increased annual spending is assumed and extrapolated from the existing baseline as part of the ‘current baseline services projection’ covering a ten year period. Therefore any proposed reduction of future spending is against this already assumed spending increase. The result is spending always goes up, any cuts are phantom only, and the Democrats can scream bloody murder about draconic cuts to a public totally unaware of this budgeting fraud that would send folks in the private sector to jail.
We have to get to the election and get those Independents to see Boehner ‘compromised’. We WILL lose the Independents
IF WE REFUSE to at least appear reasonable now.
Any cuts are directly tied to the Debt limit. No passing of the cuts, no raising of the debt limit.that is written into this law.
More cuts kick in and if they aren’t ‘real” we go back to the Debt Ceiling.
It averts a Bond meltdown and interest raising because the Bond Market sees we are going in the right DIRECTION on CUTS. THE MARKETS don’t care about the Debt ceiling, they care about our actual Debt.
We put Obama in a re-run of this fiasco BEFORE the election!
Now, if those on Freep who want to scream about “to hell with this, just let it go if we can’t get the kind of cuts we want”..to them, I will say Congratulations when Obama wins in 2012!
We have NO leadership and will continue to have NONE, until we purge that Weeping RINO>
“the cut is $22 billion in fiscal year 2012”
What is that, about 3.5 days of current spending?
Put another zero after it and I’ll be willing to hear more.
It isn’t what we had hoped for, but remember, you can still win a game with a lot of base hits.
We’re only in the first inning, but as long as we keep getting singles, we can still win the game come November 2012...
"No. Thats the beauty of the design. It is in two tranches. Obama and the Democrats dont have to sign onto it just once. They sign on twice. They will have their fingerprints on it."
WE NEED APPROXIMATELY $4 TRILLION IN CUTS TO PREVENT A DOWNGRADE...
Seriously, why is this so difficult for people to understand? Do you want the GOP's fingerprints all over this outcome?
Hello, we have to set ourselves up for November. We can’t do jack in real reforms until we have the senate and the White House. We will NOT get that if we blow this entirely with zero compromise platforms.
Look at the long story, look at the bigger picture. We have bigger fish to fry, and we can’t light the fire yet. We need the matches and the hibachi we don’t yet have.
Re: your last paragraph...I get a chuckle out of Freepers that seem to relish in the idea of a true national default, and the chaos it would cause, failing to realize what it would do to those of us still managing to hang on in this economic fiasco. It’s almost as bad as the born-agains who gleefully await the end of days.
If the House passes this the ball is in Obama’s court. It is very modest. Obama will be the obstructionist if he does not go along.
Yes, its lousy.
But we have only HALF the congress!
The Dems have the senate and the presidency. Untill we get the Presidency and hopefully the Senate we are stymied.
If the conservatives really mean business...they will move forward with this, and then we at least have a shot at the Independents. Just conservatives , no matter how many go to the polls can not realistically get rid of Obama in 2012.
I know many disagree, but I say get SOMETHING THROUGH THE SENATE...then GO FOR 2012 and begin reversing and undoing all the Bozo’s crimes against this country.
