Debt Battle: The Tea Party has proved its power — and its principle. Now it's time to declare an imperfect battlefield victory in 2011 and regroup for the more important struggle of defeating President Obama in 2012.
Champions of smaller government, low taxes and a freedom-driven economy shouldn't expect whatever the end result of "Boehner 2.0" is to be worth very much cheering, especially after Harry Reid's Senate gets through with it.
But with the clock ticking on the federal government's debt deadline, Tea Partyers should take whatever half-loaf now comes their way.
They've demonstrated that theirs is one of the most formidable grassroots movements in American history. What they stand for is right, and would make our Founding Fathers proud. And they've demonstrated that they're the real deal, not shills for those who are a little right of center within the Republican Party.
Bismarck might not be the Tea Party's favorite historical figure, but his advice has never been more pertinent than here and now: "Politics is the art of the possible."
Tea Partyers shouldn't lament that their preferred Cut, Cap, Balance approach, which passed the House, is impossible to get enacted into law in 2011; rather, they should take pride in realizing that because of their movement, real spending reform is indeed politically possible — just not this year.

One battle over, another has begun.
The TP is not responsible for the "internecine warfare." The old guard will not relinquish power. As other FReepers have suggested, Boehner and the old guard RINO's are more concerned with destroying the TP than they are in battling with Democrats. Once the TP members did not fall in line they became the enemy.
The Tea Party not only has to battle Democrats/liberals, it has to wrest control of a political party from those who think they are entitled to lead, and entitled to their perks and privileges.
The glaring and obvious fact that Americans must take away from the debt ceiling debate is that there isn't much difference between the two major parties. If you want to define Republicans + Democrats as one party, and the Tea Party as another, then you might make the argument for a two-party system.

Well, considering the fact that most of the so-called "Tea Party" candidates voted for raising the debt limit $2.4 TRILLION, I think there's a bit more work to be done in that regard.
Folks need to learn the difference between principled statesmen and Republican astroturf.
I know who my enemies are for 2012. The problem is that many of my “friends” seem to act just like my enemies. I have no confidence in the spineless RINOs on my flanks...
We need to pay attention to the weak sisters and make sure they are not reelected.
The GOPers who think the tea party is the problem, they need to be shown the door even at the risk of losing the seat. It does no good to elect Repubs who vote with the Dems in the clinch. We need to make sure that anyone claiming to be one of us actually is. Anyone who thinks its cute to badmouth the very rank and file of their own party need to go back to doing divorce law or whatever it is they were doing before they got ambitious.
There is where the battle should occur because the Constitution will be in jeopardy.

According to Moore, the Conservative Manifesto’s ten points were as follows:
1. Immediate revision of taxes on capital gains and undistributed profits in order to free investment funds.
2. Reduced expenditures to achieve a balanced budget, and thus, to still fears deterring business expansion.
3. An end to coercion and violence in relations between capital and labor.
4. Opposition to “unnecessary” government competition with private enterprise.
5. Recognition that private investment and enterprise require a reasonable profit.
6. Safeguarding the collateral upon which credit rests.
7. Reduction of taxes, or if this proved impossible at the moment, firm assurance of no further increases.
8. Maintenance of state rights, home rule, and local self-government, except where proved definitely inadequate.
9. Economical and non-political relief to unemployed with maximum local responsibility. 10. Reliance upon the American form of government and the American system of enterprise.
The document was soon labeled as anti-New Deal. Bailey wrote the manifesto, however, because in his mind Roosevelt needed to help provide a proper balance between enterprise and government. Bailey also wanted to remind FDR that bi-partisan opposition to further collectivization was possible.

I call baloney. Pubbies have to pass exactly -- nothing -- and Jug Ears and his politburo out of necessity will HAVE to cut spending. I don't think there's any way the idiot in the white hut will make good on his bluff of NOT paying SS, Medicare, etc. Unlike general funds, these are "trust" accounts, and as such the gubmint is held to a higher standard in their capacity as fiduciary. Have I missed something?

I think you have missed something. Like it or not, we need independents to vote for our candidates for President, Senate and Representatives next year. If Obama successfully pins the lack of an agreement and it’s results on the tea party and the independents bite on it, we lose everything. Here is the real issue, the Supreme Court. I want Obama out so that the next vacancies are not filled by another Kagan or Sotomayor. We lose the court, all these crucial votes coming up on Obamacare and all the other crap he is pushing become law.
I've never run across a definitive exposition getting a fix on what drives the independent voter. "Fickle" might be an accurate description as near as I can tell so how does one "package" an appeal to hit a moving or movable target? Is it a fool's errand??? Seems like it to me.
One thing is fairly certain, independents have been moving steadily towards Pubbies almost since Jug Ears took office and began implementing his "fundamental transformation of America". It's also fairly clear, even to independents apparently, that Jug Ears and his apparatchiks have set a course to destroy America. They have become the enemy of the very principles and traditions America was founded on that made us the envy of the world.
WHY would you want to negotiate with your enemy, particularly when the tide of battle seems to be turning in your favor? If conservatives debate, quibble or cede ANY ground to the enemies of America, we slam the door right in the independents faces dragging up the rear behind us. JMHO of course; your mileage may vary...
