Is pornography driving men crazy?
CNN ^ | 6/30/11 | Naomi Wolf

It is hard to ignore how many highly visible men in recent years (indeed, months) have behaved in sexually self-destructive ways. Some powerful men have long been sexually voracious; unlike today, though, they were far more discreet and generally used much better judgment in order to cover their tracks.

Of course, the heightened technological ability nowadays to expose private behavior is part of the reason for this change. But that is precisely the point: so many of the men caught up in sex-tinged scandals of late have exposed themselves – sometimes literally – through their own willing embrace of text messages, Twitter, and other indiscreet media.

What is driving this weirdly disinhibited decision-making? Could the widespread availability and consumption of pornography in recent years actually be rewiring the male brain, affecting men’s judgment about sex and causing them to have more difficulty controlling their impulses?

There is an increasing body of scientific evidence to support this idea. Six years ago, I wrote an essay called “The Porn Myth,” which pointed out that therapists and sexual counselors were anecdotally connecting the rise in pornography consumption among young men with an increase in impotence and premature ejaculation among the same population. These were healthy young men who had no organic or psychological pathology that would disrupt normal sexual function.

How does that work?

Sexual scandals never existed before the Internet.

Men were all perfectly well-behaved and in control.

Naw this girl was a nice girl but she really was hot. I remember one day she was standing in front of me on the school bus, waiting for someone to move over for her.

She was wearing a pants suit and boy she was attractive. It was all I could do to keep from grabbing her derriere which was perfectly shaped.

Actually she had sort of a sad life. She married one of my friends, a good guy and they had 3 beautiful and athletic daughters. She died of cancer before she was 40.

It is odd but one night when I was around 17,I dreamed about her. We happened to meet between our houses. She looked at me right in the eyes. I saw the saddest brown eyes I have ever seen. The dream really bothered me and yes I still wonder if I had a premonition that she would die and leave her husband a widower and her children without a Mother. That dream literally bothered me for years.

If this is the same Naomi Wolf who had been affiliated with many marxist/socialist and anti-men organizations, then avoid her like the clap.

She is a “hater”, of men, of America, of Israel, of free enterprise, of democracy.

In fact, many women don’t like her extremism at all. She is Gloria Steinem on steroids, and with hairy armpits.

I know our current definition, legally, of adultery, is a married person having sex outside of their marriage.

However, Jesus seems to be teaching that any sex outside of marriage is a breach of the 7th commandment, “Thou shalt not commit adultery.”

Each commandment cover sins in that category.

For example, “Thou shalt not steal,” covers refusal to work, moving someone’s boundary marker, refusing to tithe, as well as stuff like grabbing someone’s money.

“Thou shalt not commit adultery,” covers any unBiblical sex act, whether homosexual behavior, rape, fornication or bestiality or whatever.

That’s the general understanding: that the ten commandments is the condensed list for the sins far more elaborately described and condemned throughout Scripture.

It should be illegal...too many criminals and such are emboldened and sustained by porn. The Meese report about it years ago clearly showed that.

Well, I do think repeated exposure to anything intriguing creates a desire for yet more. I remember when I was much younger, going through a phase where I was reading a lot of erotica. (I’m not much into pictures, but I do like to read!) And after a while, it did seem to be slowly changing my brain into something I didn’t like. One day I decided it had to stop, and I stopped cold. I don’t go near it now. It really is quite dangerous, IMHO.

A combination of things is far more likely to create widespread sexual aberration.

To start with, in America there are no polite, chaperoned, social events that young people can attend that involve socialization without strong distractions.

When asked when do children socialize, most people respond by saying school, first, then church. But in both of these cases, children are kept very busy doing other things, so their interaction is minimal.

Even if you just put children in a big room together, they would self segregate by gender, so in a chaperoned environment this could not be permitted to any great extent.

One suggestion to achieve socialization sounds almost bizarre, but might be particularly effective, to literally (padded) handcuff or ankle cuff a boy together with a girl for an hour each day for a week, then they switch partners and are handcuffed to other children of the opposite gender. To go to such extreme lengths shows how very important such socialization is to our society.

Familiarity with the other gender in a polite and social way goes quite a way to preventing what Ann Coulter recently proclaimed to be a terrible social blight: single motherhood, which statistically produces anti-social children far more than children from two parent families.

Children raised without gender socialization are terribly vulnerable to false information, intellectually and emotionally. They do not understand the other gender, yet are propagandized into sexuality long before they are ready for it, under the mistaken belief that their peers are far more sexual than they are.

There are many perverse adults more than happy to exploit them for their sexual naivete and innocence. Both commercially and personally, to the point where such abuse is mainstream. Why make a movie where 10 year old children are dating and kissing? 14 year old children are having sex? And in recent years, it has taken a strongly dark turn in Hollywood, with movies about young children who are raped and even murdered.

But this situation, a lack of socialization, has been going on for many years. If you examine the young lives of men who are pathologically sexually aggressive as adults, you will likely find no understanding, or even concern about girls and women other than sex objects.

One thing we did with the Christian student group at my university was take ballroom dancing lessons. It was pretty successful(and educational, how many college kids know how to ballroom dance?). Of course the gender ratio was never even so we’d have to rotate, but that was just an opportunity to get to know even more people, really. We used our organization funds to hire a professional instructor and were given free access to the dance studio on campus.

Let's see, feminists wage all-out war on men for forty years, replace them with teens and metrosexuals and lesbianism, and then... women go stark raving mad. What to do? Hmmm... blame men, of course!

Not so fast, Naomi, sweetie.

The big list: Female teachers with students

“Jesus seems to be teaching that...”

How so? Why should we not take it literally? Is there not a danger of sliding into gnosticism if we assume what things mean? Why, if people can do that, would they not assume that other parts of the Bible are non-literal?

“Each commandment cover sins in that category.”

I’m don’t think you can find that in the Bible, that the 10 commandments are the superclasses of sins, and other sins come under those.

God gave you a brain. Use it.

We are hardwired to procreate. Every man and woman of age on this earth will look on attractive people of the opposite sex and their thoughts will shift. It is not Satan that is shifting their thoughts. It is human biology - the very workings of the machine which God created.

Acting upon perfectly normal thoughts and thinking about them are two entirely different things. Please don’t equate them.

One other thing that isn’t pointed out in any of these discussions - hormonal birth control has absolutely destroyed the typical male/female balance of attraction. In the old days, women (and girls) used to be attracted to masculinity. The features of men associated with testosterone are now less desirable and women want feminized men. This isn’t the fault of Hollywood (well, it might be) but rather the fault of hormonal birth control. It has literally rewired their brains.
