Police are trying to defuse a bomb strapped around the neck of a terrified teenage girl at a multimillion pound mansion in Sydney, Australia.
Cops raced to the Mosman home of the 18-year-old victim, who is part of one of Sydney's wealthiest families, after she raised the alarm.
A senior police officer has described the device as a 'collar bomb' and it's believed a ransom note has been attached to the girl's neck.

A senior police officer has described the device as a 'collar bomb'
As opposed to a wrist bomb, ankle bomb or nose ring bomb?

Yes it was the pizza guy. Very sad. IIRC the perps have just been sentenced but basically got away with murder.

It is a good thing that Australians are not allowed to use firearms for self defense. The man who entered the house and placed the bomb on her might have been hurt./S

It's been reported that a balaclava-clad man entered the home, in Burrawong Avenue, and placed the device around the neck of the girl this afternoon.
Sounds like the guy might be Greek.

I saw that story. The guy who made the bomb died before the authorities could figure out he had anything to do with it.

Someone with a large debt and failing business? A restaurateur desperate for cash because of a failing business? Or a disguised individual to lead investigators in a wrong direction?
Prayers Up for the young lady.

Sounds like the guy might be Greek. Or Turk but I daresay, I've never seen a balaclava wearing person eating baklava. Did he have some baklava on his balaclava?

Prayers for this young girl and her family. I find this terrifying. Wasn’t there a case in the U.S. where a man had a bomb around his neck and ordered to rob a bank. If memory serves me correctly (and it doesn’t always do that), I believe he didn’t survive. I am wondering if this is some kind of new terror of sorts. Prayers... they have to be worried sick.
To: momtothree
The man who died did so because they didn’t really believe it was a bomb until it went off. They’ve learned from that mistake and have a much better response to this girl’s situation.

Neck collar bombs are a pivotal part of the japanese movie "Battle Royale" and are indeed an effective motivator.
I hope they can remove it quickly and safely.

I do remember something about the belief it was a hoax or that the police felt the man was using this bomb as a means of escape. I wonder how difficult it is to defuse a bomb strapped to a person (especially around her neck)? Not that I am saying any bomb defusing is a walk in the park but if it is on a person... does it raise the difficulty?
