Semper Paratus
Big shout out to my nephew, a proud, happy Coast Guard officer!
August 2nd marked my 40th consecutive year as either active duty or contractor serving the Coast Guard. What a great organization doing a lot of good things with so little money.
20 years is a career, 30 years is a lifer, 40 years is an addiction. Get Help!
You can see the festival live on a pan/tilt/zoom web cam here:

You may have to wait in line to control the camera.
Hit the preset for “Channel Wide SW” to see the ships.
From a retired US Navy real sailor, Happy birthday to you shallow-water puddle pirates!!!
Just joking - you guys are always there when someone’s in trouble on the seas. You rescue people during the worst of weather, stop illegal drug runners, provide security on our coasts, and get looked down the nose at by the other services. A great book about some of the Coast Guard’s history is David Stick’s “Graveyard of the Atlantic” which details the US Lifesaving Service on the NC coast.
It is easy to forget those great times.
Happy Birthday USCG...............PS It's my B-Day too.
Thanks for the tribute. Served in the USCG from 1984-1988, mostly at a small boat station on the Cape Cod Canal. Seems like a million years ago, but those were some great years.
Glad I joined, glad I served, glad I got out.
Happy Birthday CG! My late father served during WW 2!

Check out the last pic on #8 above.
That swim call was positioned at over 22,500 ft of water below the keel.
I never knew the earth was so big till I got stationed in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
Happy B-day Coasties!

I like to point out the vast expanse of the sea and then add: “That is just the top”.
Nothing like swim call...especially when they call out the ‘sharpshooters’ to act as shark guard.
Some of the fellow Sailors that were armed while on shark guard made me think I would rather take my chances with the sharks....<: <: <:
On the LST we could just drop the bow ramp and have our own ‘beach’, of course steel rather than sand....
