I doubt they have a conscience or they couldn't. So no skin off their nose....probably just show time to them...and then pay day arrives.

Brainwashing goes on in law school to convince students that it is a good thing for them to defend a dirtbag.

It's good that law school brainwashing doesn't work for every student. Some of them, somehow, are able to graduate, become prosecutors, and go after dirtbags.

Have to say if they defend a high profile individual, with lots of cash, generally just one case alone can make them a bundle....and notority along with for a time.

It should be, but I think AZ is as cowed by these cultists as almost every other state, except Texas so far. Back when we were talking about this just after the raid, the “bleed the beast” practice was mentioned.

Lots of us were angry about that, but you know, even on FR, you get a lot of people who say that to go after them is religious prosecution. One lady who showed up on some of the threads said she wanted to give them a free pass because she was afraid clamping down on them would badly influence home schooling.

Back then, the fLDS had a lot of supporters here, many who believed Oprah and the rest of the media’s sugar-coated depiction of this horrid cult. All they could see was that children were being taken away from parents—never mind that ol’ Warren did a lot of that himself—and that it seemed to interfere with their religion. Short-sighted, at best.

Now that the true horror is coming out, I’m hoping they’ll go after all the crimes, including the welfare fraud, tax fraud, child rape, physical abuse (beatings), child neglect (kicking 12 year old boys out so Jeffs and his geezer friends would have the pick of the young girls), and some suggest other crimes but those are merely rumors for now.

Also, some of the lawyers are fLDS, sent to law school to defend the “church.” Those that I know about did not do a very good job—so not a very good investment, perhaps.

I look at it this way.....if the man takes them under his roof because his religion allows this, and in the eyes of their religion these are his wives....then he is responsible for their care monitarily as well.

I wonder how many of these woman would be with these men if that was the equation they had to live by. I doubt as many as the men couldn’t afford them. They’d be looking for the sugar daddies then.

Here's a partial list of what's going to be part of the penalty phase, from the San Angelo Standard Times:

Special prosecutor Eric Nichols outlined deeds that the state plans to present to the jury for consideration in punishment, reading off numbers and charges: that he had 78 illegal wives, that 24 of those were underage, that he had been a part of or helped perform 67 illegal underage marriages, that he had participated in more than 500 bigamous marriages separately, that he had six illegal instances of sexual conduct with six separate individuals, and that he had 60 instances of breaking apart 300 families by splitting up marriages or reassigning "wives," sometimes to himself.

Sixty-seven illegal underage marriages. And yes, from what I've read, it would seem that he would see someone else's comely young wife, and kick her husband out of the church and off the property, taking the wife and her kids for his own. At the time of the raid, when DPS tried to put the kids with the parents, it was most difficult, because frankly, most kids didn't even know who their parents were.

Too bad obama and michelle aren't worried about this, instead of McDonald's Happy Meals.

I'm sure I don't have to tell you this, but be warned that there are some here who object to DCFS involvement in ANY case.

Thanks for the thread, I'll be following.

She claims.... “in the state of Arizona alone, they’re getting between ...$$$$$$$ 20 and 30 million dollars a year $$$$$$” and most of the members (of FLDS) “are living off taxpayer money.”

I think there are 12 committee members who might find this data interesting...

You would hope so...however I can't see the state NOT taking the mothers and these kids on. They likely could not survive outside their camp environment, for most. But it would be great if they could find some way of reaching the kids within their compound. That would be a huge task to say the least to counter the teachings they are indoctrinated with.
