Churches to Read Torah as Others Read Koran
Arutz Sheva ^ | 8/8/11 | Gil Ronen

Churches in the U.S. are preparing to read sections of the Torah on Sunday, August 13, in a show of solidarity with Israel and the Jewish people.

The move is a response to an initiative by a group of churches that read from the Muslim Koran during their services on Sunday, June 26. According to the Faith Shared project, which initiated the Koran reading, 66 churches from 32 states joined that effort.

In an effort to counter the move, a grassroots movement of churches across America is preparing to read from sections of the Torah during their services.

According to Pastor Mark Biltz, one of the pastors leading the move, while Jewish communities around the world read the Shema prayer, Christian communities will join them in solidarity. “There is a special bond between Jews and Christians, as both hold as the greatest commandment to love the L-rd their G-d with all their heart," Pastor Biltz explained. "So I’ve also posted the Shema in as many languages as I could find on our website so everyone could see it.

“I am asking in a show of solidarity with the G-d of Israel, the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that churches/organizations join together in one accord and read from the Torah during their Saturday/Sunday services this coming August 13 and 14,” he wrote.

Biltz went on to say that "The suggested reading from this Torah portion is the greatest commandment, found in Deuteronomy 6:4-9, that we love the Lord with all our heart, soul and strength."

The pastor is referring to the verses after the one-line Shema prayer. The reading will obviously not be from a parchment hand-written Torah scroll.

How can a “Church” justify reading the ravings of a mad, pedophiliac sociopath?

To read from “Penthout Letters” would be more edifying!

Regarding Gilgamesh it's pretty much based on actual observations of a Moon that now orbits in Venus' orbit that used to orbit in Earth's orbit ~ or outside it.

Sumerian observations recently carefully evaluated reveal that people were around to see Gilgamesh (the Moon) occulted by Inkydo (the smaller comet like moon now orbiting Venus).

There are other noteworthy events that occurred during the period when Inkydo was being transferred from Earth/Moon's control to that of Venus.

It's something more than a fairy tale and something a little less than a clear cut scientific observation ~ but you can take the Sumerian observations of Venus (Ishtar ~ their chief goddess) in coordination with the story of Gilgamesh/Inkydo and deduce that it was an interesting memnonic that people liked to read about.

I happen to have a very good priest who always unites the readings.

Good for you. It is nice to find a pastor or priest who can preach from the whole Bible, knows his stuff and can relate things.

Not much difference between them if they reject Christ.

The only reason to so much as quote from the Koran in a church is to critique its inherent violence, sexism, pedophilia, plagiarism, and stupidity.

Why not read from the Koran:

And when the sacred months are passed, kill those who
join other gods with God wherever ye shall find them; and
seize them, besiege them, and lay wait for them with every
kind of ambush: but if they shall convert, and observe
prayer, and pay the obligatory alms, then let them go their
way, for God is Gracious, Merciful.

And the Jews plotted, and God plotted: But of those who
plot is God the best.

O Believers! take not the Jews or Christians as friends.
They are but one another’s friends. If any one of you taketh
them for his friends, he surely is one of them!

Of all men thou wilt certainly find the Jews, and those who
join other gods with God, to be the most intense in hatred
of those who believe; and thou shalt certainly find those to
be nearest in affection to them who say, “We are Christians.”

And it is for the women to act as the husbands act
by them, in all fairness; but the men are a step above them.

Forbidden to you also are married women, except those who
are in your hands as slaves.

Actually, Muslims accept Jesus as a prophet, just not the son of G-d. We Jews reject him as being theologically irrelevant. But let’s agree to disagree.

More recently they found the City of Hastinapur where Krishna was King.

It'd fallen into the sea (guess it was just too close to the edge eh).

To Hindus that was rather like finding the True Cross walled up in a nearby cafe ~ with nails and all!

It'll take a while but once the Hindus have to face the truth that a lot of the Mahabarat is actually HISTORY and tales about real people, it may change much of their religious outlook.

I've watched two movie/tv shows (covering many days of viewing) about the materials in the Mahabarat. Some of it is history and some of it is older stuff filtered in just to keep it and some of it is a body of literature handed down from truly ancient times by a society that memorizes the spoken words in Sanskrit and passes them on.

Then there's the Book of Proverbs ~~~~~

Hinduism claims the Messiah (manifest as the Great Fish) saved Noah (Ma-Nu) at Mt. Ararat, later came as Shiva, and later came as Krishna.

All of their stories were considered FICTION until the finding of Hastinapur. Now, they don't know.

There’d be no problem reading Gilgamesh for the purpose of understanding some of the sources of Sumerian religion. Remember, Abram came along several thousand years later in the same place and founded your own religious tradition.

Why aren’t these so-called Christians made aware that in showing solidarity with Muslims, they are becoming one with people who are murdering their fellow Christians around the planet everywhere they have a simple majority?

Political Correctness is so insidious.

Giving to your church is like giving to the RNC.

You don’t know my Church. It’s filled with politically incorrect individuals who would give the McCain clan a screaming case of the vapors.

By the way, re- your FReeper Handle: Are you away he loses, per Revelation?

Off hand, I think Noah was still living when Abram was born.

>> The palestinians were claiming recently that Isa (Jesus) was really a Palestinian freedom fighter.

Maybe it’s time that we quit using the Greek name, and turn to our Hebrew roots. Interesting discussion here:
