Mountanous enough however — colliding or slipping subcontinental masses are certainly still possible.

What is the meaning of the “M”? Does that qualify the quake as opposed to just “3.4”?

I’m of the impression that the Bakken oil field stretches from ND into SD and Wyoming and Montana.

No, the Wilson Basin that the Bakken is part of goes that far south but the Bakken oil field does not reach to the South Dakota Border.

Yep, those quakes back in the late 70s sent a pretty good ground wave up through Minot that affected the entire wing, I was at I01 for one of them. In the early 80s I experienced windows rattling at our house in Bellevue NE from at least one quake elsewhere and the Humbolt fault which runs up through parts of NE has given us a couple of pretty good rattles over the last 20 years.
