aTm, FSU, Clemson and Missouri to the SEC as per ESPN

Posted on 08/13/2011 8:37:28 AM PDT by pburgh01

Can't be about politics all the time huh? Anyways semi political as the BCS system maybe coming to a swift end with the apparent formation of 4 super conferences and the Big-10, Pac-10 and the ACC\Big East look to consolidate and create a defacto playoff system.

Yeah, as an SEC and Vol fan I love bringing in Texas A&M, Clemson, and FSU. But Missouri? Perhaps there are some Missouri fans who can set me straight. It seems they have been playing much better in recent years.

Could be a good time for the SEC to swap Vanderbilt for FSU.

Pigs are flying over Baton Rouge.

What happens to OU?

Are they forced to the big 10?

Dude, the last five national champions in NCAA football were all SEC teams . . . and six of the last eight going back to 2003. I don't know what else that conference has to do to become an "elite" conference.

It's interesting to note that the SEC team came into most of those title games as the #2 ranked team. This is because it's damn near impossible to get out of that conference without at least one loss. At any given time there are usually 6-8 SEC teams ranked among the Top 25 in the country.

Some speculation that FSU to the SEC may not be a given..Florida, Georgia, Alabama may not be happy with this because it will make their recruiting harder..

SI.com speculates on UNC..but with all their NCAA problems..could that happen....also..that would tell if FB or BB is more important at UNC..it's hard to imagine an ACC basketball season & tournament without Duke v. UNC..

It will be nice to be able to only have to drive a few hours down to College Station for me to watch the Gators play A&M.

We few but proud Horned Frogs really don’t want to have anything to do with a BIG XII (-II) that is run as a DeLoss Dodds de facto dictatorship. Don Beebe is simply Dodds sock-puppet.

UT greed drove the Aggies towards greener pastures. UT greed destroyed the old SWC, now it is destroying the BIG XII (-II) as well. They are well on their way to being an only, which is probably how they want it. They can have it.

Never happen. A conference has to have at least one private school, there are ramifications if every school in a conference is a public university, as opposed to being mixed.

We saw this movie before, when Arkansas’ move to the SEC doomed the old Southwest Conference.

That’s why I would have gone after Kansas, instead of Mizzou....Kentucky, Kansas and UF would bring the SEC on par with the ACC in basketball.

I think Missouri is a good addition but I would have rather seen Georgia Tech in the 4th slot.

Go Vols!

And how many Yankee teams dare come play in the Swamp - or Baton Rouge, or Tuscaloosa, or Knoxville in September? The Swamp in Gainesville has triple digit temperatures on the field.

That's in the late afternoon. The humidity is atrocious. I am so thankful that the first two games this year are at 7 PM.

Georgia Tech used to be part of the SEC. In other words I’ve been watching Gator football since 1953.

The last time the Gators played a non-conference game outside of the State of Florida was 1992 against Syracuse.

Dude, lets get a couple things straight.

First and most importantly, there
is no such thing as a national champion in div.I football. There is a BCS champion, not a national champion. A national champion would be determined by a playoff. A BCS champion is determined by by taking 3 to 5 weeks off (huh?) from your last game, getting stuffed and celebrated on the banquet circuit, and then playing one game when you’ve lost your timing and game mindset.

Second, it’s all about the money, it not about the best football team.

I know the Rambling Wreck used to be in the SEC. Like everything else for Slive and Company it will come down to money and they are looking to expand television markets but as an SEC purist from a Vol/Gator family (went to UT for grad school and have a family farm about 35 minutes east of Ben Hill/Hogtown) I would rather see GT.

FSU is interesting but I am surprised they are not trying to go after a North Carolina school, Virginia school, or even Maryland for the market expansion.

To me Clemson or North Carolina would be the ideal second addition. Can you imagine the rivalry in the Swamp and at Doak Campbell, if the UF/FSU matchup was all SEC?

It used to be that each state except Florida had two teams in the SEC.
Georgia: GT and GA
Alabama: AL and Auburn
Tennessee: UT and Vandy
Louisiana: Tulane and LSU
Mississippi: MSU and UM

Then we lost Tulane and GT.

Now we have twelve, but with the addition of two to four more schools, we would really be beating up on ourselves.
