Ron Paul wins, which means nothing, and Pawlenty and Santorum finish so far down that they both drop out.

I'll check back tomorrow to see if my fearless (and entirely predictable) prediction bears out.

For the sake of the future relevance of the Iowa straw poll, the folks that put on this event must be desperately hoping Ron Paul doesn’t win.

Bachmann gave out 6,000 voting tickets so it will be interesting to see how she fairs. They all give them out but I wouldn’t discount Paul this time around.

If we’re taking bets, my money says Ron Paul does worse than expected tonight.

Ok, how is it that when you have to pay $30 to vote and there are two candidates known for paying people’s voting tax, just how is a straw poll an indication of anything?

Hearing that we could have 16 thousand here in Ames and Bachmann could get a big chunk of that vote. #iowastrawpoll

I’ll bet there is no clear winner.

She’s Washington D.C. True and Blue. I am not fooled by these people like others are. I’m sick of Washington. I want to blow it up, not keep the status quo.

Michele Bachmann is serving the best food or the most, it seems. :-)

I'll throw in my prediction here.

The next Republican President of the United States will not place in the top 5 in this year's Ames straw poll.

It’s an indication of the strength of a campaign organization’s ability to motivate its supporters.

I’ll take that bet.

What’s the stakes? I guarantee no worse than 2nd. Deal?

Exactly what Rick Perry must have thought. And he may be right. But the media are there, and it is a test of campaign organizational strength.

A little-known candidate, just as did Huckabee in ‘08, could make enough of a name for themselves by finishing well.

You know he will win. Thanks to his small but vocal band of supporters he wins most every poll. What he can't win is a presidential election -- and they can make all the noise about it they want but they just can't change that.

Watching Bachmann on C-Span - could somebody tell her she doesn’t have to shout if she’s holding a microphone?! I’m interested in what she has to say, but the yelling is hard to listen to. Does she always shout like this?

Relax. Ron Paul isn’t winning today. His crowd was not as large and obnoxious as I thought it would be. Herman Cain’s crowd was larger and for that matter, so was Tim Pawlenty’s.

Here are the stakes. If Ron Paul gets 2nd place or better, I post in big bold font that “rjeffries was absolutely right in posting brilliant analysis”. If not, you post in big bold font that “advance_copy was absolutely right in posting brilliant analysis”.
