More votes for Perry than Palin in Iowa Straw Poll

Posted on 08/13/2011 5:35:56 PM PDT by Minus_The_Bear

Rick Perry who just announced his candidacy received more votes than Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.

How much longer can Palin just drive around the country not doing much of anything and still expect to run for POTUS?

A potential candidate without the organization to even manage 100 write in votes looks really really bad.

Actually, I believe Palin will be a Perry supporter.

Because it does have a large impact in fund raising.

You can show that to corporate donors.

YOU CAN'T WIN AT THE IOWA STRAW POLL. BUT YOU SURE CAN LOSE. JUST LOOK AT TIM PAWLENTY.

Gosh, someone who’s made no secret that he plans to run, announces, and gets more votes that someone who has yet to declare and wasn’t actively seeking votes? I can’t imagine how that happened. If anything, he should be embarrassed by his poor showing. :’)

Check this out!

Legislation authored by border legislators Pat Haggerty and Eddie Lucio establishes an important study that will look at the feasibility of bi-national health insurance. This study recognizes that the Mexican and U.S. sides of the border compose one region, and we must address health care problems throughout that region. That’s why I am also excited that Texas Secretary of State Henry Cuellar is working on an initiative that could extend the benefits of telemedicine to individuals living on the Mexican side of the border.

Maybe you're the one who "doesn't get it". I was thinking about Palin's good showing on Hannity but then I got to thinking about the quality of the Palin posters here on FR. The TRUTH is the Palin supporters here are constantly whining about how Palin is persecuted and how she's been victimized by "the establishment". Well, who cares? If Palin wants to be taken seriously, she had better suck it up and put on her big girl pants and get in there and work without whining.

How does Palin whining about being a victim help her in a campaign? It doesn't, it says she doesn't have the guts to take on the big boys and she is going to have to do that.

Say what you want but Bachmann has been victimized just as much as Palin and she has sucked it up and gone in there swinging.

It looks like Palin doesn't have what it takes. This is the big leagues.

It’s very likely that if Gov Palin had entered the IA Straw Poll a few months ago she’d have walked away with it, but she didn’t. So why are you resorting to quoting a major Democrat strategist’s version of events? Is Trippi saying he’s suddenly big buds with IA GOP voters and knows how they’d vote, “if only?”

Maybe you could get a name change then.

Then everybody would know and you would not need so much angry over compensation.

Bachmann has been victimized just as much as Palin

You are delusional.

Too bad she didn’t participate then, but I can understand her not wanting to give the GOP any money.

What is odd is that out over 16,000 votes she didn’t even get 35 votes.

You guys really have to make up your minds. I keep hearing it’s a given she’s going to run but now it suddenly isn’t?

And no...I’m not really into spin. Save that for the people on TV and campaign officials. Sarah was there in person. I am damn sure her team was hoping they’d get more write in votes just due to her presence exciting some people to switch their votes.

And before you go there...I’ve already said Perry and Romney had a presence there too in their own ways. I’m not buying any of this talk that any of those three left the poll completely unattended. They didn’t go all in like Pawlenty, Bachmann or Paul but they all had a presence.

This is the big leagues.

From the LA Times:

Todd Palin said that he and his wife have reached out to political leaders for advice, but would not name any. “This is a big step,” said Todd. “You take everybody’s advice and input….Everybody’s information and wisdom is important….The biggest thing is making sure she has all the tools in the tool box if she decides to pull the trigger.”

Surely Gramma, you have better things to do than troll Palin threads spouting your disingenuous advice...

So what you’re saying is—Perry, who organized for votes, was able to get more than Palin who didn’t?

Your arguments are baseless Sarah will have no problem fundraising, even most media types have said this including Gov Haley Barbour who is no rah-rah supporter of Palin.

....Asked if Palin could raise the kind of money to be competitive, Barbour chuckled in agreement.

"She could raise enough money to burn a wet mule," he said.

BTW Sarah isn't going to go to corporate donors...she is going grassroots, small donantions

“I got a free ticket from a candidate.”

That means you were dishonest, giving the impression you will vote for that candidate and you didn’t.

Huckabee was proudly mentioning that his supporters got free tickets from other candidates and voted for him. That was also dishonest.

So much for conservative values of honesty.

Your post 145 is ridiculous. Palin does not whine, she has gone toe to toe with them. Her supports have done a lot of whining. Big girl panties, get real. No one has gone through what Plain has gone through and done as well.

Bachmann has not been victimized as much as Palin, not even close and she has not done as well at dealing with it. Obama and company will completely destroy Bachmann, IMO. To date, they have not been able to do that to Palin.

I figured she would get more, too. But, I didn’t vote for here even though she is my first choice and the only candidate who will get my money and and space in my yard for a sign.

There were scores and scores of buses there because candidates bring in voters from all over the state. If I has a Sarah supporter from a long distance away, I wouldn’t want to ride on a bus for two or three hours with another candidate’s cheerleaders.

Also, Palin supporters knew she wasn’t running, so why bother with standing-room-only crowds just like a Grateful Dead show?

Iowans also are very connected to the fact that Straw Poll results have never corresponded to Caucus or Election results.

But I did expect her to have more votes.

To: RINOs suck

But, why didn’t Palin’s grassroots army buy any tickets? If it really exists, one would figure they would be out buying tickets since their candidate showed up prior to the event.

Do you want to send $30 to your local Republican Party? Most Palin supporters would prefer to save that and send to their candidate.

She showed up on Friday, not because she wanted votes in a poll. She wants to win the Iowa caucus and the IA State Fair is where you can meet lots of voters. Her reception there was great while Bachmann showed up 30 minutes late to her speech and talked for only 3 minutes out of a 20 minute schedule, much to the crowd’s displeasure. The crowd will vote in the IA caucus, but probably did not vote in the Ames Straw Poll.

Palin does not buy political favors. She does not waste her supporter’s money on meaningless ego trips. She wants to be President and will run for the office but she will not try to buy it or pay others to steal it for her.
