Rick Perry, who entered the 2012 GOP race Saturday, greeted his first crowd of voters here with two words rarely heard in these parts: with a wave, he let out a boisterous Hi, yall to a crowd clad in khakis and button ups gathered around a backyard pool.
There was also this: Yall holler outta question to open up a question and answer session.
And this when it got going: Theres hands going up everywhere, somebody just get after it.
There were times when the three-term Texas governor sounded eerily like the Saturday Night Live version of George W. Bush, droppin every g and proclaiming awesome at nothing in particular.
His appearance raised the question that is at the center of his candidacy: Can Perry take his Texas twang on the road and meet voters where they live, in cities and suburbs and swing states?

Try mocking black linguistics.
“For me, Perry represents establishment, and Im fed up with establishment.”
My biggest concern is that Perry is another “compassionate conservative” particularly regarding amnesty and open borders. We need to get rid of Obama, but we don't need George Bush's third term. The second was difficult enough to stomach.

Button ups? Is that gay-speak for shirt?
The author is likely a member of the Black Journolist.
Me too! (as long as Ron Paul's not the VP)
Its on YOUTUBE so it must be real !
The Perry Haters or Obots are running real scared today !
New York is the champ with Ohio and Virginia right behind.
Personally, I don’t like coronations, especially this early in the process. The thing that concerns me with Gov. Perry is that this might be more of the “Crony Capitalism” that Thad McCotter writes about in his must read book “Seize Freedom”. Its neither socialism nor capitalism. Its Big Business and Big Government combining to squeeze out everyone else and I think its spot on as to what is going on now.
Excellent observations. The fast-paced speech of the typical northeasterner sounds to the southerner like a used-car saleman (or stockbroker) trying to run a bad deal past them. Also, this fast-pattern is insulting because it is condescending and de-personalises the listener. And direct personal relationships are very important to the people who produce and live out in the provinces.
Our only defense is to ridicule in kind the mannerisms and distinctive affectations of the ruling classes, exactly as they ridicule us peasants.
Bingo. If Palin enters and ends up having to go hard against Perry, she’d eventually have to raise the cronyism charge. I’m thinking Perry will falter before that’s necessary, but that also plays into the stereotype of a Texas pol—as well as Perry’s only proclivities.
You just described the President as well!!!!! Get us a good solid legislature and a President that will sign and we are back in business!!!!!!!!
Thanks
I suppose you never tried to talk your way out of a potential ticket?

I think what that means is the author does not know up from down. And, The Washington Post can no longer afford an Editor to supervise the “journalists”.
Yep, pretty much. His main job is to put his signature on legislative bills to make them law. He signs execution orders presented by Pardons and Parole. He calls special sessions when the legislature doesn’t finish their business in regular session and reads the opening report every two years when the legislature meets (yeah, they only meet every two years). He’s CinC of our National Guard. He appoints the Sec. of State. Well, that about takes care of his duties. Not meaning to be crass but as long as our governor signs off on our legilature’s bills and doesn’t cause a public scandal, he/she’s good to go.
In Texas, the Lt. Gov. has more power since he’s President of the Senate, votes and sits on several committees. He’s the workhorse, not the governor. BTW, they run on separate tickets.
