As the Governor of our diverse state, in all matters it is my desire to seek common ground for the common good. In the end, we are all Texans and we must be united as we walk together into the future.
That's why today I have signed House Bill 587 into law.
Texas has always been a tough-on-crime state. With my signature today, Texas now has stronger criminal penalties against crime motivated by hate.

This is the bill law that makes homosexuals more equal than others.
Wow, great timing LOL.
bill law = bill he signed into law
“With my signature today, Texas now has stronger criminal penalties against crime motivated by hate.”
“Thought-crime does not entail death. Thought crime is death.”
And this guy still sounds like a democrat.
How about the hate filled heart of the muslim who killed 13 service men and wounded more than 2 dozen more. He’s still sitting in a comfy cell, being waited on. He should be hung.
This pretty much does it for me on Perry.
All crimes are hate crimes. To create artificial distinctions based on the perceived mindset of the perp or the group of the victim just fosters more of the identity politics that is destroying this country.
This shows that Perry won’t have the cojones to stand up to the PC crowd. We Texans know Perry all too well.
That's a black mark against Perry in my book. (No pun intended).
Texas now has stronger criminal penalties against crime motivated by hate.
No Governor Perry that is not the case at all. What you signed is a bill based upon hate against traditional values and that gives special status to those who project that hate towards decent and moral Americans. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Anything containing the phrase “hate crime” is straight out of the left-wing playbook.
If Repubs choose this guy, this nation is done for.
When will we get a Repub who politely vetos MORE BILLS ABOUT GARBAGE OUT OF THE LEFT-WING PLAYBOOK ?
No on needs the sodomite lobby to get elected.
They simply can’t rant and rave about how sodomy is wrong - true, or the left-wing attack machine, er, I mean, the media, will skewer them.
But they can simply vote no and sign nothing PROMOTING the left-wing agenda.
Perry is already negotiating and giving in to immorality and not only is he not President yet, he’s only been officially in the campaign for 2 days.
Very Romney-esque of Ricky.
Another candidate I can scratch off my list.
Another candidate I can scratch off my list.
“it is my desire to seek common ground for the common good.”
It’s all for the greater good.
Good for you. Good for me.
`I don’t know but I been told,
Eskimo (mumble, grunt, clearing throat, etc.)
Eat your peas!
“Hate crimes” are “thought crimes”, no matter the motivation for them.
They, in affect, make a crime of someone’s thoughts at the time they commit some other legal offense.
But they only make certain thoughts - motives - a crime, and do not make a crime of other thoughts/motives present when others commit the same crime; in affect denying equality under the law.
They do not even prosecute all “hate” present in the commission of the same crime.
A man who murders his wife because he hates her is not prosecuted for the crime of murder, and separately prosecuted for “wife hate”. A man who murders his “gay” friend IS prosecuted for murder AND prosecuted for the “hate” crime of hating his friend because his friend was “gay”.
“Hate crimes” not only violate First Amendment rights - freedom of expression, they represent unequal justice; prosecuting certain motives, but only certain motives as additional “crimes”.
It is enough that when a “gay” person is attacked, or killed that their attacker does not escape justice just because the victim is “gay”.
If the person who is attacked is not gay, do they desire and deserve LESS justice, because they are not “gay”. No.
Isn’t it enough that assault and rape and murder are crimes, no matter what the motive is? Yes, it is enough.
Some ignorant justices notwithstanding, the SCOTUS should rule “hate crimes” unconstitutional.
As a compassionate state, we know that for our children to succeed, they must not only be healthy, but educated. The future leaders of our two nations are learning their fractions and their ABCs in classrooms all along this border. Immigrants from around the world are being taught in Texas classrooms, and our history is rich with examples of new citizens who have made great contributions.
We must say to everyTexas child learning in a Texas classroom, we dont care where you come from, but where you are going, and we are going to do everything we can to help you get there. And that vision must include the children of undocumented workers.
Thats why Texas took the national lead in allowing such deserving young minds to attend a Texas college at a resident rate. Those young minds are a part of a new generation of leaders, the doors of higher education must be open to them. The message is simple: educacion es el futuro, y si se puede.
And yes, my link is from a lib website. They see his flip-flop as “nightmarish.” I call it “revealing.” This guy is nothing but an opportunist.
