Outgoing Obama ‘Car Czar’ Makes Yet Another Communist Reference
The Blaze ^ | 08-17-11 | Tiffany Gabbay

That brings us to this month. In an article last week, Politico ended its story on Bloom’s resignation with a curious quote. In reference to Obama attempting to forge a partnership between manufacturers in several states and academia — in order to revitalize American factories — Bloom apparently saw something Mao-esque in the way government was attempting to support private business, stating the approach would, “let the great thousand flowers bloom in America.”

If that sounds familiar, it should.

While the correct wording is in fact a “hundred flowers,” there is no question as to where the phrase derives from. Back in the summer of 1957 in the People’s Republic of China, a movement emerged called the “Hundred Flowers Campaign,” during which the Communist Party allegedly encouraged those with diverse view points to step forward and share their ideas with a view to “letting a hundred flowers blossom and a hundred schools of thought contend is the policy for promoting progress in the arts and the sciences and a flourishing socialist culture in our land.”

The body of the thread comes from the end of the piece available at the link. This smart alec is poking us in the eye as he leaves his phony post as a disgrace and fully discredited. Another rat leaving the sinking ship.

Some good video clips at the link as well.

Everyone I have ever known named Bloom or with Bloom in their name (like Bloomberg) has been an idiot. My experience may be anecdotal, and apologies to any conservative Blooms on this board, but this guy proves the rule. Does Bloom mean moron in Yiddish or something?

Nothing wrong with Eric Bloom of Blue Oyster Cult, other than perhaps needing more cowbell.

I do know that Buck Dharma, the other BOC guitarist, is pretty conservative from what I hear.

If I recall correctly, once those hundred flowers bloomed, all of them that were found to be less than ideologically pure had their heads chopped off by the regime.

Remember Bialystok and Bloom from the original "Producers?"
Very funny movie.

That of course was the whole idea. When Mao Tse-tung said, “let a hundred flowers bloom, let a hundred schools of thought contend”, he was merely tricking opponents into revealing themselves to the regime. After they were rounded up and exterminated, Mao launched the “Great Leap Forward” the following year, a disastrous experiment in cottage-level industrialization that devastated the countryside and resulted in widespread famine and even cannibalism due to cropland destruction.

To any thinking person the “hundred flowers” analogy should recall government suppression of dissent of the worst kind.

Not that there are any such in this bunch.

Not that there are any thinking people in this bunch? (Do you mean the Obama regime?)

Or do you mean there are no Mao like Communists that will trick "opponents into revealing themselves to the regime. After (that) they were rounded up and exterminated".

I am SURE there are radicals working for Obama, if not Obama himself, that will round up opponents and exterminate them. Is there any doubt in your mind this is true?

Well.... what I did mean is that there are IMO no people in the Obama regime who think independently; i.e., they are mostly lockstep ideologues of the hard left.

And yes, I do believe there are those of the Bill Ayres and Cass Sunstein variety who would jump all KGB on the rest of us had they the raw power to do so.

That’s what makes that reference to Hundred Flowers so unnerving: I think whoever used it meant it in the Maoistic sense: trick your opposition into revealing themselves and then exterminate them. And this wasn’t the first time the ChiComs smoked out their critics: look up the “Three-Anti” and “Five-Anti” campaigns of the early 1950’s.

And I’ll bet Mao’s little red book can be found inside the White House as well.
