5 myths about Rick Perry
Washington Post ^ | August 18, 2011 | Evan Smith, Texas Tribune Editor

Posted on 08/20/2011 1:13:35 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

You’re probably thinking, “I’ve seen this movie before: West Texas boy makes middling grades in college, gets elected governor and — to the consternation of gobsmacked Democrats, who misunderestimate his folksy appeal — runs for the Republican nomination for president.” But if that’s all you know about Rick Perry, you should be asking whether the country is ready for another White House occupant from the Lone Star State. The fact is, the most recent entrant into the GOP race is nothing like the caricatures being promoted on the left and the right. Here are some myths that need debunking, and quick.

1. He’s a Bush clone.

Biographical similarities aside, Perry is not the second coming of George W. Bush, either stylistically or substantively. Bush governed Texas with a light touch and had a good relationship with the Democratic majorities in both chambers of the Texas legislature. Perry is more hard-knuckled in his dealings not only with Democrats (now a minority in the House and the Senate) but with insufficiently conservative Republicans — what we in Texas pejoratively call “moderates.”.....

2. He’s a hillbilly dimwit.

That’s bias against Texas, pure and simple. Just because he wears cowboy boots and drops his G’s doesn’t mean he’s a dummy. Perry may be a small-town boy who went to an ag school (Texas A&M University), but he’s an extremely cagey and strategic politician who has been among the state’s most successful governors at getting what he wants. (Put another way: Even if he’s not book smart by University of Chicago standards, he’s plenty street smart — and street smart is still smart.) The better lens through which to regard Perry is inside vs. outside, establishment vs. anti-establishment, elitist vs. jus’ folks. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that jus’ folks is jus’ dumb.

Wow! I sure struck a nerve.

Don't worry, it wasn't my last one. And you've got enough for everybody anyway.

....answering the brain dead Perry bashers.....

If you halfway paid attention in here, you would know by now that Perry is no conservative, and that he serves people whose interests are diametrically opposed to those of the People of Texas and the American Experiment.

If you paid as close attention to your instruments as you do to your politics, you'd be a pilot in the past tense by now.

"There are old pilots and there are bold pilots,
But there are no old, bold pilots."

I believe that Michele Bachmann is probably the strongest on illegals.
Sarah Palin is also strong on Immigration.

I don't was to disrespect anyone, but Rick Perry is an "establishment pawn" meant to divide the conservative vote so the liberal Republican (RINO) can win.
Rick Perry isn't going to stand for our values.
Look at his voting record.
Anyone who supports him, just isn't looking at the total picture.

Anita Perry m.o. sounds like Laura Bush. Both supportive but both know when to put their spouse/politicians egos in check.

It’s a good balancing.

Here's a test, mister old, bold pilot.
Identify this aircraft and its pilot, and if you can, what it stands for.

I like the posted photos, too.

How do you do this with screen capture, etc? Something I'd like to learn.

BTW, still undecided but I just have a good “vibe” on Perry and Palin. Kind of scratching my head on the negativity on both.

Vibes you can't take to the bank; I think I have a Texas vibe going on. I'll have to watch out about that! “I know, let's put on a show!”

What would happen if we sold every plus far and wide and had hidden aces for the expected attacks?

How about we turn it around and put Obama on constant, unrelenting defense?

CW...I try to keep up with TTC callers on talk radio - callers, who we know, are always correct!

A caller said that trucks coming from Texas will not be stopped and inspected until they get to a checkpoint in Kansas?

Wha’?

I thought Tyson was based in Arkansas, not Texas.

Just a Trivial Pursuit question!

Yes, the Tysons' operations are up in Arkinsaw. That's why I made that comment at post 48 about how few of Rick Perry's political friends are actually Texans -- including the King of Spain and his front company, CINTRA.

But when Kay Bailey Hutchison was granted an audience with a bunch of Texas billionaires in West Texas, to talk about possibly running for goobernor in 2006, I think Tyson was there, as was Bo Pilgrim, together with numerous representatives of the construction business, led by Trammell Crow (who died in 2009, I think). They told her they had good money invested in Perry -- this is a very, very close paraphrase -- and meant to get their money's worth out of him, and for her to get her butt back up to DC and be a good little senator.

Center what you want to save, the Print Screen key saves it to the clipboard. Go to MSPaint or a graphics editing program - go to ‘edit’ and paste it in.[ Ctrl +S ]

That will give you the full monitor view, which would have to be cropped. If you press Alt + Print Screen it will save only the specific window that you have open. Then go to ‘file’, name it and “save as” a .jpg and take it to
an editor to further crop if needed, etc.

Here’s a link to help;

I believe Perry will constantly speak out about Obama. He will be a thorn in his side.

Thanks for the “edumacation”!

The only way I even thought of Tyson and Arkansas was the Tyson & Clinton association.

Something about runoff from Tyson's was polluting rivers. And, that both Clintons looked the other way for the usual reasons.

Politics, like making sausage REALLY IS PRETTY NASTY AND CONVOLUTED AND SMOKY BACK ROOMS. Who do you trust more: politicians or the MOB?!

Thanks for the tip! I just got a MAC and the learning curve breaks my spirit sometimes!

I look forward to following your instructions and see what happens.

With something new to learn and that learning curve, you might be hearing from me on this again!

Thanks, again!

I'm drawn to Perry and Palin, I think, because of the old settlers and the colonies. They both seem to have a fearless can-do attitude like the founders and settlers. Whether that is good or not, or even true, I'll have to study more. I've read one Palin book and I'm ready to start Perry's FED UP. I will not be reading or buying Obama’s books, whether he wrote them or not.

I think we've all seen and heard enough of this fellow.

If he does run again, can SOMEBODY demand to see his real, proper and legal birth certificate?

I've got some friends that work for Tyson in Chicken Plants.
Tyson's very bad about wanting mostly Illegal Immigrants to work for them, probably 70% or more.
They hire them as "contracts", and have let U.S. Citizens go just to hire more Illegals, so says my friend.
