Another GOP Ruling Class scribbler heard from because it’s “Romney’s turn.” How’d Dole and McCain work out for you, Andrew?

“I still have more convincing to do get him to confirm that he will vote for Palin too if she is the candidate.”

Why don’t you wait and find out who the candidate is? Then you only have to convince your friend once.

Of the current field of announced candidates, I think Romney is the safest bet. Is he perfect? No. But he is nominally electable and has the fewest handicaps going in.

“someone with an existing handicap among voters or someone who will self destruct...”

That’s a perfect description of obuma. I look forward to obuma’s brain publicly locking up in a psychopathic meltdown and spewing Hitler-like invectives. He’s come close a few times.

Because he is strongly anti Palin and the earlier I start the pro Palin campaign on him, the better. He still chuckles when I mention her name, as do his three sons who are also fed up Obama voters.

Sarah has her work cut out for her, and so do those that support her. But I think she can do it.

“Its critical that we don’t nominate someone with an existing handicap among voters or someone who will self destruct”

So, who should it be? What do you think?

Romney might have appeal (at least for now) to “independents” but he’s got NO support on the right. And, he couldn’t even beat McCain last time!

Palin’s negatives are THROUGH THE ROOF. As much as I like her I was very taken aback when a gal I work with, no big lib, said off the cuff about something “I really hate Sarah Palin but....” She did go on to defend Palin over some kerfuffle (I’m sorry I can’t remember what it was, some flap) but the way she said she “hated” her, it blew me away. I don’t know why people don’t like her, if the MSM just really destroyed her or what, but I’d be very hesitant to put my money on her.

Bachmann? She’s turning into a gaffe machine. I’ve sent her money, so it’s not like I can’t prove my support of her, but the Elvis thing was just s.t.u.p.i.d. I know it is a minor issue, but you really shouldn’t be making mistakes like that.

Santorum? Maybe, he could yet rise further.

Caine, Gingrich, Paul, these are all non-starters for various reasons.

So, those are the declared candidates plus Palin.

Well, I didn’t discuss Perry, but I’ll say he is looking like the not-Romney/not-Palin to me right now.

I don’t think Paul Ryan would be well served by getting in the race and I’m not sure the race would be well served by his entrance.

If Chris Christie leaves NJ to run for Pres. I will be really POed, and besides I don’t think he’ll play in Peoria. He’s very soft on the 2nd amendment and definitely no better on immigration than Perry.

So, I’ve blathered on, tell me what you think?

Don’t think so Sergeant. I thought that his scratch his mouth with his middle finger (while talking about McCain) was such a moment in the 2008 campaign. But the MSM covered for him good. And they will continue to do so. Any such rant that you mentioned will either be covered up or rationalized away. And the weak minded will just buy it.

No, Romney is the candidate most likely to cause a third party run by a conservative. I can’t stand him and he is hardly any better than Obama, however, if we get a tea party house and senate we can keep him in check since he just blows with the wind anyway.

Jeb Bush signed the law that eventually allowed a judge to kill Terry Schindler Schiavo by withholding food and water.

I changed my mind about Jeb Bush during Terry's family's struggle to keep her alive.

Thanks to you, CW, I finally clicked on Diogenesis link.

I gave him grief about a month ago for overselling the Gardisil negatives on a Perry thread, so now, having read the article, where is the lie CW? It's a news article giving info about an event that happened, one where Perry appears to have shut down her agreed upon time because she gobbled up all the oxygen in the room. A couple of people there were guoted, describing the Perry reaction as envy and narcissism gone awry.

If this didn't happen as described in the article, kindly give a link showing what DID happen.

..........The depth of Obama disgust among so many of those that voted for him is very deep, so deep that many of them would vote for George Bush over Obama if that was the choice.

I agree.

Exactly. The MSM pushed McCain hard in the primaries—precisely because they knew he’d self destruct in the General Election.

As for support on the Right, hate to say this, but they had better vote for whoever the Republican nominee is. Yeah, they can stay home and assure a BHO victory. You can say the same thing about those on the Left who think BHO isn’t Liberal enough. In the end, both extremes will will hold their nose and vote for the guy closest to their agenda.

"independents"

Some will obviously go for BHO.

What, three?

This is an informative article and reasonably well balanced.......

It's snotty and Ferguson makes the "case" w/o all the facts -- just repeats talking points made by the Left -- for example the economy. Ferguson makes it sound like Texas is a trash heap with dirty air and ignorant, dirt-poor citizens.

Suggested reading for Andrew Ferguson and others (that IS balanced):

Seventeen (17) things that critics are saying about Rick Perry

I actually think Christie would be a very good choice. He is smart and a very effective, plain spoken speaker. I have seen numerous clips where he just demolishes his detractors, but in an logical, respectful way (not vicious). I think Christie is the one person that BHO would be absolutely terrified of. If they ever debated each other, Christie would clean BHOs clock.

I basically agree with Zulu - anything to get Zero out of the White House. If Zero gets another term, the country is literally doomed.

Some other reactions:
The choice is not between France and Texas. The choice is between Chicago and Texas. I lived in Texas for ten years. It’s got problems, but I’d be happy to live there again. No way would I live in Chicago.

If I could appoint the next President,I would appoint Sarah Palin. However,I might not be doing her a favor. I’m convinced that whoever wins in 2012 will leave office four years later absolutely hated. Our problems are that big.

Federalism - in a renewed, revised, and amended form, maybe like Switzerland - is probably our only salvation. Because if the whole of the country were like Chicago (I’ve been there,) or California (I was born there,) I wouldn’t want to live in this country.

Secession: Thomas Jefferson envisioned not a country from sea to shining sea, but a multiplicity of republics in North America. We may yet come to that.

Look at it. There are many governor's there who had been speaking to the media. This video clip shows Sarah Palin's time at the mic and there is nothing but respect and encouragement given her by Rick Perry.

You might be surprised at how many people feel that Palin is not ready for this. Listening to my friends I hear this over and over “I really like her but let her run for something else first and gain more experience”.

“I actually think Christie would be a very good choice”

Well, you are right, Christie is a fantastic public speaker.

I worked on a congressional campaign last year (a losing one, despite all the tea party upheaval, NJ is so well gerry mandered that ALL our incumbent congress critters were ret’d to office) and Christie spoke at a little rally right at the end of the campaign.

He was FANTASTIC!

I came home raving to hubby “Now I see why people want him to run for President!”

The group was largely a tea party group and many, many (maybe most) had not voted for him in the primary (I did), and I’m pretty sure he knew that.

But, nevertheless, he spoke to that group in the most perfect way, directly to their concerns, praised their efforts, urged them to do more, etc.

The man really has a gift. Even though he never even looked over in my direction, nevertheless I felt he was speaking directly to me. Right to my heart.

Now, that sounds a little over the top, I realize, but that was how I felt, I am not exaggerating.

Aside from that experience, he’s really lived up to my expectations. I voted for Christie because he is fat. I said to myself, a guy like that, so heavy, people are so prejudiced against fat people, but he’s been so successful, he must have a talent for working with people, for getting his way, for getting things done.

So far as can be expected, I think, he’d done that.

And, we need him and you can’t have him!
