” Yasser Arafat died at least 8 times in the media that I can recall. “
Not enough, if you ask me. I favor resurrecting the SOB in the rumor mill, just so we can have the good news of his demise a few more times.
Momentum appears to have now firmly swung in the opposition's favour after months of near-deadlock, with the rebels holding much of the east and parts of the west.
"Gaddafi's days are numbered,'' said Jeffrey Feltman, US Assistant Secretary of State, during a visit to the de-facto rebel capital of Benghazi. "The best case scenario is for Gaddafi to step down now ... that's the best protection for civilians.''
Mustafa Abdel Jalil, an opposition leader, echoed the statement.
"The end is very near" for Gaddafi, said the chairman of the rebel National Transitional Council (NTC) on Saturday.
"We have contacts with people from the inner circle of Gaddafi," he said. "All evidence [shows] that the end is very near, with God's grace."
The territory remaining under Gaddafi's control has been shrinking dramatically in the past three weeks, with opposition fighters advancing on the capital, from the west, south and east. Major supply routes into the capital have also fallen under rebel control.
Libya: Rebels Say They Launched Attack On Tripoli
TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) Libyan rebels said they launched their first attack on Tripoli in coordination with NATO late Saturday, and Associated Press reporters heard unusually heavy gunfire and explosions in the capital. The fighting erupted just hours after opposition fighters captured the key city of Zawiya nearby.
Gunbattles and mortar rounds were heard clearly at the hotel where foreign correspondents stay in Tripoli. NATO aircraft made heavy bombing runs after nightfall, with loud explosions booming across the city.
"We planned this operation with NATO, our Arab associates and our rebel fighters in Tripoli with commanders in Benghazi," Mustafa Abdel-Jalil, the head of the rebel leadership council, told the Arab satellite channel Al-Jazeera. Benghazi, hundreds of miles east of Tripoli, is the rebels' de facto capital.
i haven’t kept up with this Gadaffi guy or Assad person.
What did they do that 0 says they must go?
Did they refuse to donate?
Libyan rebels close in amid reports of fierce fighting in Tripoli
The Libyan capital, Tripoli, was rocked by explosions and gunfire on Saturday, as residents reported clashes with security forces in a number of locations.
Journalists in the city, based at the central Rixos hotel, described hearing heavy gunfire, while residents contacted by news agencies described fighting in opposition areas after a text message was sent out to phones calling on those living in the capital to: "Go out on to the streets and eliminate agents with weapons."
The fighting in Tripoli comes after days of battlefield defeats left Muammar Gaddafi's government and troops penned ever more tightly in the besieged capital. Although the scale of the clashes was impossible to determine, there were widespread claims among the Libyan rebels that Gaddafi's 41-year rule was edging ever closer to collapse.
Gaddafi, Mubarak, Assad, Bin Ali (Yemen), what's his name in Tunisia all have one thing in common. They are/were mostly secular rulers. The return of the Mahdi requires a religious Caliphate and that means religious rulers. Ergo, they must go.
I thought this was suppose to be a no fly zone??
What gives 0 the right to do this?
Bingo... For the record I hate Gaddafi.. I think he is scum.. However, I don’t trust the rebels at all.
Do you believe in evolution? Might makes right. It is the foundation of pretty much all non Christian theology, including Islam and Marxism.
I wonder if this is one of the reasons that Chavez is asking Bank of England and others to return all the gold metal they are holding for Venezuela. I wonder what kind of mischief the 2 of them are cooking up. I say don’t send the money back as long as he harbors Gaddafi.
The big problem will be the radicals who replace him. Gaddafi caused us grief a couple decades ago. But as of late he wasn't a serious threat to us. You can bet his replacement eventually will be though. Not too mention the resentment it will buy us.
This evening McLaughlin Group was guessing when Gaddafi might leave. All but one said it would be before Sept. 12th. Looks like they were right. Here is a story that I put on hold this afternoon. Now I don’t remember exactly what it was about (late life memory flaw), but it was re developments in Libya.

Domestic Communists and smelly mohammedans are hereby warned.
Payback is a bitch.
Again?
"Rumors that the rebels are in Tripoli are blatantly false. They have been driven from our beloved city and are fleeing across the desert."
