Why is Glenn Beck going to Israel?
Jewish World Review ^ | 8/22/2011 | Zev Chafets

In its long slog through history, the Jewish caravan has acquired a lot of improbable and colorful camp followers, from Bulan, king of the Khazars, to Marilyn Monroe and Madonna. Lately, conservative commentator and former Fox News TV personality Glenn Beck has joined their ranks. This week, he's setting up his tent in the Holy Land for three televised Zionist rallies, dubbed “Restoring Courage,” in Jerusalem and the ancient Mediterranean port city of Caesarea. They are a sequel to the mass Restoring Honor rally at the Lincoln Memorial a year ago.

Beck is traveling with letters of commendation from Jewish leaders such as Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman; conservative Christians such as the Rev. John Hagee, the head of Christians United for Israel; and Texas Gov. Rick Perry, a newly declared GOP presidential contender.

“These won’t be massive gatherings like the one in Washington last year,” Beck told me in a telephone interview. (Crowd estimates for that event ranged from 80,000 to more than 300,000.) “These will be ticketed events, specifically targeted at Christians around the world,” via the Internet.

In our interview, Beck said that the tour would be attended by “four presidential candidates, half a dozen to a dozen senators and about three dozen congressmen,” although he declined to name any of the participants. A few days later, Josh Rafael, his spokesman, called to say that, in fact, Beck wasn’t sure which high-ranking American politicians, if any, would be there. In any case, Beck doesn’t plan to share the lectern. This is his forum and, perhaps, his chance to make a bid for leadership of the growing Christian Zionist movement in the United States and around the world. Leading that movement could mean leading conservative Christians in this country as a whole.

I listen to his radio show, your mileage may vary but the impression I got was that his idea is to urge Americans to continue to support Israel despite the current US administration’s seemingly more hostile policies. He’s not saying “Israel, you need to be braver” by any means according to what I have heard on the radio. Quite the opposite, really.

Actually, I admire Madonna’s love of Israel. You can youtube her concert in the Holy Land where she wrapped herself in the Israeli flag and watch the crowd go crazy. Not too many celebrities would do that.

Would this be why Madonna has all but disappeared from entertainment media attention? Has she been branded with “crazy aunt” status since she became overt in her Israel support?

There are many strange things in the Book of Mormon, but the one tenet is that beings from other space came to earth. One creature came to the door of the BVM, impregnated Her, Jesus was born and He had three wives.

This is a ‘Christian’ religion?

It’s not Isreal that needs the courage, it’s our leaders that fail to recognize that Isreal is the one democracy in the Middle East which we can count on. We have to find the courage to back them up when they need us.

Wow lol. You don't know as much as you think you do.

Don’t know if I would call someone who has predicted events a year before they took place a nut job. May refer to him as a realist, something many Americans forbid to accept. Just liked they fantasized about hope and change, see where that led us.

If you really knew history, then you would know he isn't a nut job. That's the whole point of history. If you can't see what's coming, you are blind.

Isn't it possible that a man can really believe what he says and says what he means? It doesn't have to be for money, fame or power. It can be just to get his ideas out there like the prophets of old. If someone is shouting "FIRE" while beating on your door, do you lay there in bed trying to figure out his "angle" or motive? Maybe your house is really on fire and you don't know it.

I don't think Mormons are Christians, but knowing what they believe, they are required to believe the Bible along with their book. There is no contradiction for them to believe Israel is a special place to God. Their treatment of Christ is what separates them from Christianity. A Muslim would tell you Jerusalem was a special place also. I'm more aligned with Beck than not and can't see why people fight him so much.

Just as an aside,...If the presidential race comes down to Romney and Obama, will you vote for Obama because Romney is a Mormon? Beck, being Mormon, doesn't make him wrong on every issue. I listened every day while he was on Fox and never, not once that I can remember, heard anything I disagreed with. I was aware that he may be using his spot to recruit Mormon converts, but the only "Mormonism" I ever heard was the stocking of supplies for bad times. I'm as Christian as it comes and I don't disagree with that. If he would have started speaking on Holy underwear and my own planet with many wives, I would have flipped the channel.

He’s going to Israel to get his mojo back? How much does he actually know about Israel? (or the Bible, for that matter). Last week he was calling the major archeological site Caesarea “Ka-ZAR-ia.”

He actually thought the Israeli government would have no problem with him holding a pro-Israel rally on the Temple Mount. Now that is deeply ignorant.

I’m a big fan of Glen but for the life of me I can’t understand why he pals around with a laughably clueless bigot like Hagee

I voted for Romney in the 08 primaries. BTW, I'm a Evangelical Christian.

This election cycle I will vote for anyone in the general that doesn't have horns and a pitchfork that has an R beside their name.

IMO Glenn is still a certified nut-job who is confusing a lot of people with his RELIGOUS speak, and is therefore a dangerous entity.

I think he meant Restoring Courage for those who stand with Israel.

BTW-there were WAY more than 300,000 attending Restoring Honor! Why would the author under-report attendance?

I think there is the possibility of Glenn Suffering from a Terminal Illness and he is going to Israel because he won’t make it back to the USA.

And it won’t be whatever he is suffering from that stops him from returning.

Thanks for straightening me out on that. While I went to DC for the Restoring Honor rally, I have not kept up with GB as much since he started GBTV.

“Restoring Courage” for those who stand with Israel sounds like a worthy cause, and is aptly named.

I think that most of the Mormons I have known are Christian. When I have asked them "whence cometh your salvation" they've explained it in terms very amicable to the Apostle's Creed.

What I also think is that they are Christians in serious error, with all the Book of Mormon stuff. I think the same thing of many Catholics who elevate Jesus' mother and the "saints" to divine status. The first three commandments should be very clear on that subject.

While this is serious error, it does not rise to what I would call "fatal error."

I've never heard Beck talk about his beliefs that would make me think he is not a Christian.

And I wouldn't be surprised to find out that he and his wife picked Mormonism because Beck is an alcoholic, and wouldn't have any booze around to tempt him.

Tell me what it says about Jesus’ birth.

3 Nephi 1

There you can read what the Book of Mormon says about the night of Jesus' birth yourself.

Or you can look in another LDS scripture (it's super secret) and see what it says.

Matthew 1
