Yesterday’s Taboos - Torchwood, Pedophilia, and a Dying Culture
Breakpoint ^ | August 23, 2011 | Chuck Colson

Four years ago, the BBC decided to capitalize on the immense popularity of the long-running Doctor Who series by creating a spin-off called Torchwood.

Whereas Doctor Who is, apart from the intensity of its stories, safe for the whole family, producers said that Torchwood would be “dark, clever, wild, [and] sexy.” Doctor Who for adults” is what they called it.

As a colleague wrote at the time, a better word to describe the show is “nihilistic” — it’s a judgment that’s reinforced by the show’s newest character.

[...]

For the fourth season, entitled “Miracle Day,” the writers ratcheted up the transgression: the newest character, Oswald Jones, is a pedophile. Yes, you heard me correctly.

Jones, played by actor Bill Pullman, is a convicted pedophile-murderer who is released on a technicality. While he’s far from the first pedophile to be depicted on television, he is undoubtedly the first depicted in a way that prompts the audience to root for him.

sounds like the writers of battlestar galactica who wrote by “what would offend the most” criteria. Now there was a series that died fast. The writer’s strike could not have ended it fast enough.

Yes, RTD (Davies, the Torchwood creator) has pretty much admitted he does have a gay agenda.

That being said, Harkness is supposed to be pansexual, meaning he’ll take anything (even worse then Kirk). But fans have noted that this season he does seem exclusively gay.

I don’t read the theme as being “a gay man saves the world”. But I can see how people take it that way.

And of course, a cool piece of trivia is that Torchwood is an anagram for the parent show. Which restarts in 4 days. I (and 5 kids in the subdivision) cannot wait.

You’ve given a good accurate analysis. Oswald is a complex character so far. The show has just about pushed me over the edge to not watching it again. The last episode went too far IMO. The scenes with Jack and his lover were too gratuitous, but what turned me off is RTD’s blatant comparison of Jack to Jesus Christ, and his bashing of Catholicism and Christianity in general. That was blasphemous even if one isn’t very religious. RTD would never have the guts to portray Jack as a Mohammed or Buddha figure.

“And, while my wife and I liked the first three seasons of Torchwood, we are finding the fourth season harder to accept because the main character has come out a lot more than previously.”

This season was the first time that I watched Torchwood and the scene in the gay bar made me want to puke and I have never watched another episode.

It might be a good show - but it opens doors for elite liberals to start pushing pedophilia. Fighting social taboos makes for exciting TV...

It'll start with liberals saying pedophiles were born that way It's not a choice.

Or if we don't accept the rape of 3 year old, elites will say 'it's just about sex'. Why are we so uptight about sex?

The MSM will chime in with " Once people against blacks being free..." and they were WRONG on that - so they're also wrong on this....

Liberal elites will accept marriage between a pedophile and a six year old. It makes them edgy and cool - and soooo brave for standing up to Tea Party types. Elites will say the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy and the evil Tea Party are against January/November marriages... that's they're sooooooo backward.

Then a liberal judge in San Francisco will try to stop the debate by decreeing the marriage between a 50 year old man and his 6 year old bride legal...

It's gonna be fun.... The last step will be when liberal elites contemptuously call us pedophiphobes... and write laws making it illegal for us to speak against pedophiles - hate crimes against 'hate speech'...

Never watched Seasons 2 or 3 because of Countrycide. Miracle Day is Season 4.

The Danes character in Torchwood gives as a defense for pedophilia and murder ... “he should have run faster.”.

Again, they are not promoting him as a character to emulate. They are showing him as a monster who is good at public speaking and who has evil pushing his celebrity.

I think that one of the problems we have is entering into these debates to begin with. You can’t debate anyone that won’t listen to the obvious. It’s like debating whether the sky is blue or not. Or like debating whether the color is black or just a darker white. As people, we need to decide whether we want something or not.....then enforce it.

I haven't seen "Torchwood" but I have seen Showtime's "Dexter", in which the protagonist is a handsome, personable young police forensics officer who happens to be a serial killer. And yet, "Dexter" hasn't persuaded anyone that serial killings are normal or acceptable, or tried to do so - it's clear that Dexter is an extremely disturbed man who commits horrific acts and will eventually end up in prison or dead.

From the Wikipedia entry for "Torchwood", it appears that they're doing something similar with their character (played by Bill Pullman) - a man who raped and killed a 12-year old, was sentenced to death and executed, but managed to live due to some world-wide event called the "Miracle" which prevents all death. There's no hint that the character is meant to be seen as a hero or that pedophilia is portrayed as anything other than a despicable crime.

You Said: "If the people stood up against it, it wouldn’t happen."

Response: Absolutely correct.

Comment: However, your post assumes a "people" exists! That is no longer true. All we have today is a demographic, upon which anything can be imposed at anytime.

I think people still do exist. It’s the controllers that want us to believe that we don’t exist. Once they convince us of that, they have total control. We are what we are and once we are totally controlled, we are done. I don’t believe America is at that stage yet. Close, but not yet. We can turn this country around if we want to. Don’t let anyone tell us we can’t.

“Elites will say the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy and the evil Tea Party are against January/November marriages... that’s they’re sooooooo backward.”

Did you know you used “marriage” in the same sentence with pedophile?

Isn’t that akin to a sentence with ‘marriage’ and ‘gay’?

My own theory is that lawyers pushed the ‘gay marriage’ issue lawyers believed that just being queer shouldn’t be an excuse to avoid supporting divorce lawyers.

;-)

The latest episode is actually starting to tie quite a lot together, but the faggotry (literally) turned an otherwise interesting show into something far less pleasant.

Thank God for DVRs. We just skip through all the gay crap. Don't miss much because it does nothing to advance the story line. One thing I thought was interesting is that the effects of the "miracle day" on those who would have otherwise have died lets you get a glimpse of what must have happened to Jack at some point in the future when he became the Face of Boe.

Someone apparently whacked his pretty head off and stuck it in a jar - but since he can't die he just remains a big head in a jar forever.

I thought this had to be satire when reading about Bill Pullman’s character. But it doesn’t look like it indeed is, on rereading. I guess they’re following the same gameplan homosexuals used.

>>> Take a glimpse into the next perversion the liberals at the BBC are getting us ready to accept: Pedophilia.

I remember the old days when Bill Pullman was getting us ready to accept US presidents flying jets in combat missions against mile wide alien spaceships.

>>> Captain Jack Harkness is an openly gay character ... so the premise of this season of show is not that we are to accept Pedophilia, but rather that a gay man will save us.

Captain Jack isn’t gay. More like he is happy. When first we meet him in WW2 blitz London he is drooling as with his binoculars he closely examines Rose Tyler’s fanny bouncing around in her tight jeans.

He’s open for any attractive target of opportunity. The Doctor even warns one or two later female companions away from him. If Jack was gay he wouldn’t need to bother.

From the July 20 thread :

Discussing what I now call the Gay Softporn Handbook and Propaganda Manual BBC Show...

TW is just too adult for my tastes - too much weird sex stuff.
Maybe you can torrent the UK version.

19 July 2011
It appears that fans of the British version of Torchwood won’t be getting an eye full of Captain Jack Harkness and an unnamed barman despite the fact that it apparently already been broadcast in the US on STARZ. The BBC bosses thought it was too explicit. This, from the network that included a full on nudity scene involving a post-op transsexual in a movie exploring transsexuality.
The Sun reports that a source, which hopefully wasn’t hacked into by reporters working for News Corp, that the executives felt that the scenes were just too sexy to show primetime audiences. The source said “It wasn’t that it was a gay scene that worried people, but just the fact it was such an explicit sex scene, full stop. You can get away with scenes like that on American cable channels, but you can’t on primetime BBC1.
A BBC spokeswoman did confirm that this scene was cut along with another that they deemed to be too explicitly violent. She said “The UK and US versions of ‘Torchwood’ are slightly different. However, these differences do not change the story in any way and the strong storylines are first and foremost to the series.”
John Borrowman did promise show fans that the new series would be the sexiest yet, and it would include “man sex” and “full-on” nudity.

Four years ago I watched the original series, which occasionally has a few seconds of pervert behavious, both male and female, but it was brief enough to ignore, and easy enough to excise, Since it added absolutely nothing to advance the plot.

I planned to transfer the episodes to DVDs to watch again, and it would have been easy enough to edit those scenes out.

This "American" version of Torchwood is another animal altogether.
When they first snuck in more than a few seconds of the perverts, I felt uneasy.

On the last episode (Aug 19, I think,) they went way over the line with prolonged scenes of homosexual activity, at which time my wife walked out of the room, and I immediately went to the hard drive with all the episodes of both the Brit and American versions of this militant pervert advocacy crap disguised as "entertainment," and erased them entirely. I do not wish to give even the impression of "tolerance."

I assume that their audience will be reduced to teenagers and the tiny percentage of male and female perverts in the United States and their friends and families.

Good luck to them.

I just regret that the executives at Starz didn't have the good sense to follow the example of their BBC counterparts.

I'd rather watch Cash Cab.
