Former U.S. Congressman Walter Fauntroy was among the foreigners trapped in the Rexos Hotel in the Libyan capital of Tripoli.

An associate of Martin Luther King, Fauntroy, 78, arrived in Libya a week ago as a part of a peace mission.

Fauntroy, pastor of the New Bethel Baptist Church, had warned the danger he and the journalists faced.

"As a minister who believes in the fervent and effective prayers of the righteous, I have joined with Dr. K.A. Paul in an appeal to people ... to pray for deliverance for not only us, but the press corps.

"arrived in Libya a week ago"

How'd that happen?

"Fervent and effective prayers for the press corps......"

By joining the press corps, he may have elevated them all to a hostage status. If Qaddafi doesn't get out of town safely he may have condemned them all. Qaddafi must have been thrilled to have a US Congressman under his control.

Qaddafi loyalists are cornered and the rebels may be under no compunction to back off and begin standoff negotiations.

This may take a special forces extraction, not likely to end peacefully.

I wonder what this clown was really up to. Heading to an active war zone? I really hope we let him over there and don't risk live to save this guy. He is a radical POS.

Fauntroy views the grassroots conservative Tea Party movement as a racist political group. In an August 26, 2010 article by ABC, Fauntroy said, "We are going to take on the barbarism of war, the decadence of racism, and the scourge of poverty, that the Ku Klux -- I meant to say the Tea Party," Fauntroy told a news conference today at the National Press Club. "You all forgive me, but I -- you have to use them interchangeably."

Eleanor Norton Holmes, Fauntroy's successor, notes, "Mrs Fauntroy did not know the circumstances of Reverend Fauntroy's visit to Libya. He told her of the trip only shortly before his departure in order to prevent her from worrying."

The State Department was also completely unaware of his plans. This is a major complication for all.

It is unlikely that his "Fervent prayers" will have much sway in muslimville. We can only hope that he does as well as Daniel. My prayers will be for the Special Forces that may have to rescue him from the lethal position he put himself into.

His vigilante peace mission could likely cause a great deal of unpeaceful violence. The rebels are certainly itching to finish this fight.

If he is a “sincere Christian”, he would do well to educate himself about the TEA party if he’s ignorant of its purpose because his words clearly speak volumes.

Otherwise, his words clearly sound like he’s nothing more than a race baiting, libelous huckster trying to keep blacks afraid and on the DEM plantation.

Equating TEA party members with the KKK defies credulity and compromises any credibility he may claim as a “christian”.

Which puts him on par with ... Wait For It ... the non-voting Delegate from American Samoa ...

So lets NOT call him “Congressman” ...

What if Obama does? I can tell you there is a great deal of chatter at the State Department over this. This could finally force troops on the ground.

Fauntleroy marched with MLK, Jr. How many black votes would Obama get if he doesn't rescue an old-school civil rights activist?

Fauntroy founded Walter E. Fauntroy & Associates, a consulting firm that provides lobbying services for a variety of clients. The first and biggest client to sign on with Fauntroy was Nelson Mandela’s African National Congress (ANC). Since 1992, Fauntroy has been lobbying Congress to pass legislation to create an “enterprise fund” for South Africa. He has been actively encouraging new private U.S. investment in South Africa as well. “I’m having a great time,” Fauntroy told the Washington Post from his new offices on Connecticut Avenue.

Opposition to the “TEA” Party Movement

Fauntroy views the grassroots conservative Tea Party movement as a racist political group. In an August 26, 2010 article by ABC, Fauntroy said, “We are going to take on the barbarism of war, the decadence of racism, and the scourge of poverty, that the Ku Klux — I meant to say the Tea Party,” Fauntroy told a news conference at the National Press Club. “You all forgive me, but I — you have to use them interchangeably.”

Fauntroy visited Libya on a “peace mission” during the 2011 Libyan civil war.

Although a non-final-voting Congressman, he sat on committees and was was allowed committee votes and could introduce legislation on any issue. Not only was he a Member of Congress but much more:

He was the DC coordinator of the 1963 March on Washington, the 1965 Selma to Montgomery March, and the 1966 Mississippi Freedom March. President Johnson appointed him Vice Chairman of the White House Conference on Civil Rights in 1966.

Do you think Obama will let Fauntleroy, one of the last old-school the civil rights icons get hurt?

That's a real Christian attitude lil' lord Fauntroy gots himself there. Methinks when he preaches, his sermons contain very little if any of the Gospel. I wonder if the Rev. GD America-Wright was a seminary classmate of his?

There is no chance any ground troops will show up to rescue this clown. Black voters are going to swing for Obama 90%+, rain or shine. Some washed up old hustler still pretending it's 1961 isn't worth the time it would take Barack Obama in 2011 to explain the occurrence of a single American casualty to the rest of the country.

Barry's hands have stayed clean as can be regarding Libya. He's not going into Tripoli to dirty them now. If this old fool gets capped, it's not going to hurt him .01% with black voters.
